Youth Development Professional (YDP)
Employment Type: Part-Time, Hourly
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
Additional hours available during summer, non-school days, trainings, and special events.
Position Summary
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) plays a vital role in creating a safe, positive, and engaging after-school environment for youth. YDPs plan and lead high-quality programs and activities that support academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character, and positive relationships.
The YDP serves as a positive role model while ensuring all Club Members feel welcomed, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Organization Mission
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley is to provide year-round positive, fun, and safe places for all youth, helping them build self-esteem and develop skills necessary to make right choices, becoming responsible and productive citizens.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Using the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Five Key Elements, Core Program Areas, and Priority Outcomes, the YDP is responsible for the following:
Safe, Positive Environment
- Create a welcoming climate focused on fun, friendship, and participation
- Ensure emotional and physical safety of all Club Members
- Provide ongoing guidance and supervision
- Support daily guidance needs and Club expectations
Fun & Engagement
- Lead age-appropriate, high-yield activities that are fun, challenging, and engaging
- Encourage active participation and positive behavior
Supportive Relationships
- Serve as a positive role model for Club Members and the community
- Build respectful and supportive relationships with youth
Opportunities & Expectations
- Hold Club Members accountable to Club rules and expectations
- Lead structured activities and support youth in completing chosen programs
Recognition
- Greeting Club Members by name daily
- Utilize recognition strategies to encourage positive behavior and effort
Core Program Areas
Academic Success (Education & The Arts)
- Intentionally plan and facilitate educational activities
- Support homework help, enrichment, and creative expression
Good Character & Citizenship (Character & Leadership)
- Foster character development and leadership through daily interactions
- Encourage responsibility, respect, and positive decision-making
Healthy Lifestyles (Sports, Recreation & Wellness)
- Promote healthy habits and active play
- Communicate the value of social recreation and wellness
Teamwork & Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in staff meetings and training
- Communicate daily with the Program Director regarding successes and challenges
- Assist in other Club areas as needed
- Track participation and support assigned grant programs
- Create monthly activity calendars aligned with weekly themes
- Submit session planning sheets demonstrating intentional programming
- Assist with meals, bathroom checks, and daily Club routines
- Administer minor first aid as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of program areas
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
- Preferred: One year of experience working with youth (elementary, middle school, or teens)
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- High-noise environments
- Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activity for most of the shift
