1. JOB PURPOSE

The primary function of the Kitchen Assistant is to assist with food preparation, maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, and ensure that all dishes are washed and stored correctly. 2. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with preparing food by cleaning, peeling, chopping, cutting, and measuring ingredients by following recipes and guidelines
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as mixers, grinders, and slicers
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen by cleaning work surfaces, floors, and equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations
• Ensure that all dishes, utensils, and equipment are washed, dried, and stored correctly.
• Assist with inventory management, including checking stock levels and reporting any shortages to the kitchen supervisor
• Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures, including proper storage and handling of food products
• Assist with overseeing the kitchen programs; creating a Culinary Arts Program for Workforce Readiness teens (to include prep, cook, and serve); conduct nutrition education projects for club members.
• Assist with the afterschool meal program and the summer food program.
• Assist with the Food Truck at Club, community, and other special events
• Assist with any catering in-house events
• Assist with maintaining an up-to-date inventory by program, requisition food and non-food supplies
• Inspects all work areas to ensure that standards are being upheld and that all health and safety procedures are being followed
• Maintain the cleanliness of the dining room, kitchen, and other workspaces at all times
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces to ensure a safe and hygienic kitchen environment
• Stock and organize kitchen inventory and supplies, notifying Kitchen Manager when supplies are low
• Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries
• Assist in plating and garnishing dishes
• Restock and organize supplies and ingredients as needed
• Actively participate in mandatory Boys & Girls Club trainings and All Staff meetings
• Occasionally may be required to work special events promoted by the organization during evenings and/or weekends.
• Completes any additional assignments as requested by The Kitchen manager
QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND SCREENING
• Must submit to and pass Level 1 and 2 background screenings administered through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
CERTIFICATIONS
• ServSafe Manager Food Safety Certification required
• Food Protection Manager Certification (FPMC) or Foodservice Management Professional (FMP) a plus
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or culinary degree preferred
• Minimum of three (3) years of management experience in food service.
• Valid Florida driver's license required
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
• Prior experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Follow the policies, procedures, and rules of the organization.
• Effective communication skills

TRAVEL
Some travel may be required for training and/or other business purposes
3. WORKING CONDITIONS
Our offices, neighborhood clubhouses, and school-based clubs are fast-paced work environments and are strategically located in areas of St. Lucie County where youth need us most. Based on the organization's needs, flexibility to work different schedules and work in different locations in St. Lucie County is required due to changing business demands. General office conditions are the standard work environment (standing, sitting, and walking). • The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping/kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and finger dexterity.
• This position requires extended talking, listening, sitting, walking, and standing; regularly lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Daily operation of personal motor vehicles may be needed to carry out job duties for this position. • The ability to work long shifts as needed.
