POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Full-Time Unit Director
PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Management Professional
DEPARTMENT: Programs
REPORTS TO: 21st Century Manager
SUMMARY:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia has one full time Unit Director position available in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The position works with elementary school students. The position is a full-time, exempt position. We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. Candidate must be able to pass state and federal background checks as well as fingerprint checks.

Work schedule:
9:30 AM - 6:00 PM Monday through Friday with occasional weekend/after hour needs.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the 21st Century Area Manager, the Unit Director has the responsibility for the coordination and implementation of the Club Programs; supervising select personnel (paid and volunteer); collecting and reporting data for organizational and grant needs; and assistance with the care and upkeep of the facility; budget management and community relations.
Key Job Functions:
- Supervises program areas to assure the safety and participation of members in scheduled activities and programs.
- Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders, and organizations
- A marketing plan to recruit youth from the community is developed and implemented.
‑Membership and program reports are submitted to the Area Managers and others as requested.
‑ Membership records, files and books are kept up to date and information is promptly entered into web-based data tracking systems.
-Control expenditures against current budget.
- Establish unit programs, activities, services that prepare youth for success and that create a Club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
- Supervise, train and evaluate staff, volunteers and Jr. staff.
- Ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated and well lit, with emergency organizational procedures posted and First Aid kits accessible.
- Ensure all equipment is in good condition. Safety precautions are conspicuously posted and members instructed in its proper and safe use of equipment. Appropriate personnel are notified of equipment needing repair.
- All staff (Full and Part-Time) are required to be trained in First Aid and CPR. First Aid supplies are maintained and consent to treatment forms are on hand for all youth involved in the program.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Maintains contact with BGCSWVA Management Team. Has contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, tenant councils, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience preferred (GED or high school diploma required)
A minimum of two years' work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization preferred with experience planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
Knowledge of recreation and youth development theory.
Demonstrated ability in working with community organizations.
Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
Ability to deal effectively with members’ discipline problems.
Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
