What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest VA?
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting youth participants from the Club to designated events, activities, and locations in our 52-passenger bus.
Primary Responsibilities
Safely transport children to and from Club activities, field trips, and events
Conduct routine pre- and post-trip inspections of the bus, including tires, lights, and safety equipment
Pick up and drop off participants at approved locations in a timely manner
Ensure all passengers remain seated and follow safety guidelines during transport
Maintain a positive, structured environment through appropriate behavior management
Adhere to all traffic laws and federal, state, and local transportation regulations
Follow all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of passengers and driver
Communicate with staff and passengers regarding delays or schedule changes
Monitor weather and road conditions and adjust driving accordingly
Navigate safely, remaining alert to hazards such as ice, debris, or unsafe road conditions
Report all accidents, incidents, and moving violations immediately
Contact emergency services when necessary
Enforce passenger conduct policies and Club expectations
Maintain accurate records of routes, commute times, and any mechanical concerns
Report maintenance issues promptly to ensure vehicle safety and readiness
Qualifications
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
Passenger endorsement required
Successful completion of all required written and driving examinations
Pay: $25.00 per hour
