YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Program Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people. The Youth Program Assistant will be responsible for delivering daily program schedules, mentoring youth from underserved populations, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all participants.

Clubhouse Openings:

  • Auburn - 43 Second St, Auburn

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver daily program activities according to the established schedule, ensuring activities are engaging, educational, and aligned with program objectives.
  • Build positive relationships with members from various backgrounds. Foster an inclusive and supportive atmosphere, addressing individual needs and encouraging active participation.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and respectful environment for all program participants. Adhere to safety protocols and respond appropriately to any incidents or concerns.
  • Assist in the development of program activities by providing feedback on program effectiveness and suggest improvements as needed.
  • Assist with record-keeping, attendance tracking, and other administrative tasks related to program operations.
  • Encourage positive behavior and conflict resolution among participants. Implement behavior management strategies as outlined by program guidelines.
  • Work closely with other staff members, volunteers, and community partners to ensure seamless program delivery and to address any operational issues.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and stay informed about best practices in youth programming.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework or experience in education, social work, psychology, or related fields is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a program or educational setting is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with excellent driving record, preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or willingness to obtain.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage classroom dynamics and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with patience and professionalism.
  • Have interests in music, arts and physical education.
  • Must have a passion for educating and inspiring young minds.
  • Ability or willingness to drive 12-person passenger van, preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in physical activities and stand or sit for extended periods during scheduled shifts.
  • Must be able to lift and carry materials of at least 20#, as needed.

Schedule/Perks:

  • Team orientated work environment.
  • Maine Earned Paid Leave -up to 40 hours per year based on hours worked.
