What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teen Coordinator position at BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF SOUTH ALABAMA INC?
Hours: Between 2:30pm-6:30 pm Monday through Friday during the school year (up to 25 hours per week), and up to 40 hours per week between 7:30am-5:30pm during June and July for the summer program.
Pay Rate: $15 per hour

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Teen Coordinator is responsible for managing the teen programs at a Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama, and will plan, schedule and implement daily programs and activities in the community, programming services to Branch teens and generating positive public relations in the community. Develop program capacity to recruit, retain and address needs of teen members.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
A. Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
- Promote and stimulate program participation.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Recognize successes.
- Mentor and set up mentoring opportunities for teens and for teens to mentor younger members.
- Increase visibility of Club teen programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases. Prepare program materials and aids.
- Promote and stimulate daily teen programs participation as well as participation in designated national and special events programs. Programming should be appropriate, in correlation with our organizational values, and yield active engagement from members and staff involved.
- Orient new members to teen programs, special events, and opportunities as well as to club safety, program and disciplinary rules.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members, which includes adherence to dress code.
B. Program Development and Implementation
- Implement, monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities for members.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs.
- Recognize club members for program participation and achievement.
- Maintain records to track attendance and participation.
- Participate in collaborative programs and events with staff from other Branches and community organization as appropriate.
C. Supervision
- Travel between sites and to activities as needed.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of all teens participants in selected noted areas.
- Maintain order and discipline of club members.
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly club staff meetings.
D. Additional Responsibilities
15. Oversee special programs and/or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other club activities as necessary.
16. Drive Club van periodically (requires acceptable driving record and minimum age 25 to comply with our insurance requirements).
17. Consult with parents concerning member and branch issues.
18. Participate in training, Branch staff meetings and Professional Development and In-service days.
19. Temporarily fill in at other Clubs when necessary due to critical staffing requirements.
20. Assist the Branch Team in maintaining a clean and safe Club environment.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Branch staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist.
EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE
Min. age 25, and acceptable driving record (to comply with BGCSA insurance requirements)
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience: 1-year related work experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Visual: Normal acuity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use, and written records 8 hours
Communication: Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts 8 hours per day
Movement: Ability to maneuver within work site 6-8 hours per day
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing/Carrying: Able to comfortably move and manipulate up to 20 lbs of weight up to 4-6 hours per day
- NOTE: All candidates are required to undergo a criminal background and driving records check, a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and a child abuse review by AL Department of Human Resources. Some sites will also require a TB test and basic physical. (All screens are employer-paid.)
