Schedule: Generally 1:00–6:30 p.m., Monday–Friday; varies with program needs

Position Summary

The Club on the Go Youth Development Professional (YDP) is an engaged mentor, positive role model and hands-on program leader who helps deliver the Boys & Girls Club experience in mobile and community-based settings. This position prepares and leads structured activities, actively supervises members and helps create a welcoming, safe and organized environment wherever programming takes place. Because locations, spaces, group needs and daily logistics may change, the YDP must be dependable, adaptable, attentive and ready to contribute from setup through breakdown.

What success looks like: Members are safe, known by name, meaningfully engaged and eager to return; activities are prepared, age-appropriate and well led; attendance and head counts are accurate; supplies arrive organized and leave accounted for; community spaces are treated respectfully; transitions are controlled; and the YDP remains calm, professional, fully present and responsive as conditions change.

Essential Responsibilities Youth Safety & Active Supervision

• Maintain active, attentive supervision by watching, counting and listening at all times; remain with the assigned group throughout the shift except during authorized breaks or reassignment.
• Keep members within approved program areas and maintain required staff-to-member ratios, accurate head counts and controlled transitions, restroom procedures, arrivals and dismissals.
• Use knowledge of each member’s age, abilities, behavior and environment to anticipate risk, redirect concerns early and adjust activities when conditions are unsafe.
• Respond calmly and promptly to injuries, severe weather, missing-member concerns, behavior incidents, suspected abuse or neglect and other emergencies; follow mandated-reporting and notification procedures.
• Maintain appropriate adult-youth boundaries, protect confidentiality and immediately report safety hazards, policy violations and critical incidents.

Mobile Program Delivery & Member Engagement

• Prepare and lead approximately 75% structured, staff-led programming, with the remaining time used purposefully for free choice, enrichment or member-directed special interests.
• Implement engaging activities that support academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and community involvement while aligning with approved plans and schedules.
• Adapt activities for different ages, abilities, learning styles, interests, group sizes and available spaces without lowering safety or quality expectations.
• Build positive relationships by learning members’ names and interests, listening with respect, encouraging participation and recognizing effort and growth.
• Use clear expectations, positive reinforcement, redirection and developmentally appropriate behavior-management techniques; seek support before concerns escalate.
• Participate actively with members rather than monitoring from the sidelines and model curiosity, teamwork, healthy choices and enthusiasm for learning.

Setup, Logistics & Equipment Stewardship

• Help load, transport, unload, set up, organize, sanitize and break down program materials, equipment, technology, tables and activity areas as assigned.
• Arrive prepared for the day’s location, schedule, group and activity plan; confirm needed supplies before departure and communicate missing or damaged items promptly.
• Maintain orderly activity spaces and accurate control of supplies and equipment, using organizational and partner resources responsibly and reducing loss or damage.
• Inspect program areas and equipment before use, correct concerns within assigned authority and leave each community location clean, secure and ready for its next use.
• Adjust efficiently to weather, space limitations, schedule changes, transportation delays and other mobile-program conditions while keeping members engaged and supervised.

Teamwork, Communication & Documentation

• Work as a coordinated team with the Club on the Go Director, fellow YDPs, drivers, volunteers and community partners; clarify supervision roles before programming begins.
• Communicate directly, respectfully and promptly about attendance, behavior, safety, supplies, schedule changes, partner needs and concerns that could affect program quality.
• Record attendance, program participation, outcomes and incidents accurately and complete assigned reports by established deadlines.
• Welcome families and partners professionally, share only authorized information and refer questions or concerns outside the role’s authority to the appropriate leader.
• Participate in staff meetings, training and coaching conversations and apply feedback consistently across program locations.

Professional Standards

• Report to every scheduled shift on time, fully prepared and ready to work; dependable attendance is essential because mobile programs rely on coordinated staffing and departure times.
• Maintain a positive attitude and calm demeanor during changing assignments, challenging behavior, busy transitions, limited spaces and unexpected disruptions.
• Use sound judgment, take initiative within assigned authority and communicate early when support, clarification or additional resources are needed.
• Wear approved attire, maintain a professional appearance and keep personal phones and other distractions away during member supervision except for authorized work or emergencies.
• Communicate respectfully, avoid gossip, contribute a fair share of the work and receive direction or corrective feedback with a learning mindset.
• Complete required meetings, annual trainings and certifications and perform other related duties based on Club and program needs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED; relevant college coursework or training in education, recreation, youth development or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children or teens in a school, recreation, camp, after-school, community or similar setting is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to engage groups, lead activities, actively supervise youth and respond appropriately to behavior challenges.
• Dependable attendance, punctuality and ability to report to designated program or departure locations according to a changing mobile schedule.
• Strong communication, teamwork, organization, judgment, emotional regulation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in changing indoor and outdoor environments and with youth of different ages, abilities, backgrounds and needs.
• Ability to complete required background screening, orientation, safety training and job-related certifications; CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within the required timeframe.
• Bilingual or multilingual communication skills are valued.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This is an active, mobile position performed in varied community settings. With or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to:

• Regularly stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, turn, reach, speak, hear and visually monitor youth and program areas for extended periods.
• Set up, move and organize program equipment and supplies and participate in active indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather and facility conditions.
• Maintain the attention, stamina and emotional composure needed to supervise groups, manage transitions and respond promptly in an emergency.

Pay: $13.30 per hour
