Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialists work directly with an assigned member or small group of approximately 1:1-1:5 children/youth with disabilities, to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised summer camp program while acting as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor. The main role of this position is providing a 1:1, up to 1:5 support for children with disabilities in our summer camp program.

SCHEDULE: Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialists need to be available for Training Day on May 27th, with summer camps beginning immediately after. The last day of Summer Camps will be on August 5th.

Summer Camp hours are 7:30am-5:30pm and all Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialists will work shifts ranging from 4 hours/day to 8 hours/day.

The payrate depends on the type of support the Inclusion Specialist provides. Specifically we have three Tiers:

Tier 1: Inclusion Support Aide

Pay Range: $18.50 to $20.00

Typical Assignment: Lower support needs, group support up to 1:5 or 1:10

Qualifications:

• General youth development experience
• Camp or afterschool experience
• CPR/First Aid
• No intensive behavioral support background required

Responsibilities:

• Assist with inclusion within general camp programming
• Support transitions, engagement, and supervision
• Work under direction of senior inclusion staff or clubhouse leadership

Tier 2: Inclusion Specialist

Pay Range: $20.00 to $22.50

Typical Assignment: Moderate support needs, some 1:1 support

Qualifications:

• Experience with IEP/behavior support environments
• Experience supporting youth with disabilities or neurodivergent youth
• Strong behavior management skills
• Prior inclusion, paraprofessional, respite care, or related experience preferred

Responsibilities:

• Lead inclusion strategies for assigned youth
• Support staff with accommodations and de escalation
• Communicate with parents and leadership
• Complete grant and inclusion documentation

Tier 3: Senior Inclusion Specialist / Behavioral Support

Pay Range: $22.50 to $24.00

Typical Assignment: Higher behavioral or safety support needs, intensive 1:1 support

Qualifications:

• ABA/RBT experience preferred
• Special education or behavioral intervention background
• Demonstrated experience supporting youth with impulsive or aggressive behaviors
• Strong de escalation and crisis response skills

Responsibilities:

• Intensive 1:1 behavioral and inclusion support
• Assist with behavior implementation strategies
• Model and coach staff on inclusion supports
• Assist leadership with safety planning and inclusion coordination
• Support high-needs situations requiring additional supervision and documentation.

A Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialist must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for the children/youth they teach. A Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialist’s ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in giving our students the stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed.

The Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing lessons that meet Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego (BGCNWSD) Inclusion Specialists are responsible for preparing a safe, engaging, and creative learning environment, establishing a positive rapport with members and co-workers, and preparing materials and supplies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least six months experience working with youth in a classroom, after school, or recreation environment.Must pass LiveScan and criminal background check and fingerprinting, and pre-employment drug screening.
• First Aid and CPR certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management:

• Provide extra assistance for the child(ren)/youth with a disability, teaching strategies to and coaching staff, communicating with parents and other children.
• Complete inclusion paperwork per the grant requirements.
• Ability to create and implement fun and engage in developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of common cores, character development, project-based learning, STREAM, fitness and recreation, academics/enrichment.
• Plans and implements a variety of daily recreational and enrichment activities that align with BGCNWSD monthly themes for groups; continually interfacing with members.
• Ability to support young people in their small group by recognizing potential issues and applying established BGCNWSD procedures and problem-solving methods as needed.
• Ability to observe member behavior, asses its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior management techniques, positive redirection, or appropriate corrective action as necessary to support members in making positive behavior choices.
• Accurately completes and submits timecards, incident reports, rosters, receipts, and other program related materials in accordance with BGCNWSD policy.
• Identify student needs and communicate to Site Director.
• Evaluates the program daily to suggest improvement, needs, hazards and/or trends to Site Director for further evaluation.
• Observes members daily to check for health-related issues such as: bruises, cuts, scrapes, rashes, or other indications of injury or illness to report to Site Director for further evaluation.
• Responsible for designated group for duration of program or until replacement Program /Inclusion Specialist arrives – never leave a group unsupervised.
• Responsible for immediately reporting and documenting all injuries or incidents utilizing established BGCNWSD procedures for notification to the Site Director and parents.
• Demonstrate reliability and punctuality by arriving on-time for scheduled shift.
• Attendance and participation at all required staff meetings, training, and development activities; select and participate in on BGCNWSD committee annually.

Learning Environment:

• Ability to develop, adapt, and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
• Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, attitude, and courtesy.
• Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for youth.
• Maintains cleanliness in all program areas; assist with the setup and breakdown during program day to contribute to ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.
• Maintains student safety by ensuring that members are scanning in and out of the program and maintaining an accurate program roster daily. Maintains accurate member attendance rosters with roll call and continuous group counts – administering mandatory roll calls minimally at every rotation, before and after snack, before, during and after field trips.
• Ensures age appropriate conversation among members and staff; promote good manners and encourage common courtesies among members and staff.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Summer Camp Youth Inclusion Specialist are expected to actively work with designated child(ren)/youth while also monitoring BGCNWSD members at all times.
• Assist in keeping the site clean, including cleaning tables, mopping and vacuuming.
• Provides support for the daily snack/meal program including preparation, serving, clean up and maintaining accurate meal records for daily reporting.
• Possess reliable transportation to and from Program site.
• Maintain highest degree of confidentiality in staff and member matters.
• Adherence to all organizational policies and procedures.
• Appropriate and pre-approved authorization from the Administrative Office of ALL forms, activities, and permission slips.
• Any additional duties related to the afterschool program as assigned by the Clubhouse Manager/Camp Director or the BGCNWSD Administration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• This position requires a person who can work in a highly interactive setting and an emotionally and physically stimulating environment.
• This position requires a person who can work with many distractions, interruptions and still accomplish their objectives and meet established deadlines. Resource and equipment management are integral components to make the position successful. Staff and member supervision is a key requirement; the Inclusion Specialist must be able to implement activities, while maintaining program safety.
• Inclusion Specialists are expected to adhere to BGCNWSD established dress code at all times.

OTHER SKILLS:

• Ability to frequently stand, walk, stoop, sit, crouch, bend, speak, and hear.
• Ability to engage in physical activity with members without limitation.
• Ability to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects between 10 and 20 pounds.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, public officials, private sector officials, parents, and community leaders.
• Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity with others.
• Excellent organizational and management skills.
• Knowledge of developmental needs of school age children.
• Ability to manage and supervise large groups.
• Strong Math and English skills (K-12).
• Excellent communication skills.
