TITLE:  Director of Transportation 

DEPARTMENT: Operations  

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Community Clubs  

CLASSIFICATION: Salary, Exempt 

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; occasional weekend hours 

 

Position Summary: 

The Director of Transportation will provide strategic leadership and oversight for BGCNF’s transportation initiatives. This role is responsible for developing and implementing effective transportation solutions, managing the fleet, supporting drivers, building relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the efficient and sustainable operation of transportation services. Additionally, the Director will ensure that all transportation programs align with the organization’s mission of increasing mobility and access for its members. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative, community-driven transportation programs that increase access for underserved populations.
  • Conduct needs assessments and data to identify key transportation gaps and opportunities for intervention.
  • Develop long-term strategies to grow the transportation program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of transportation professionals, including program managers, drivers, and other staff.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven work culture, promoting professional development and team-building activities.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and retention of staff, ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
  • Manage the budget for transportation services, ensuring that expenditures are within budget and all financial goals are met.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and government contracts, to support and grow transportation initiatives.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, local municipalities, community organizations, and transportation providers.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure the success and sustainability of transportation programs.
  • Ensure all transportation operations comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations and transportation laws.
  • Oversee safety protocols, including driver training, vehicle maintenance, and emergency procedures, to ensure a safe experience for all riders.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess the impact of transportation services, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders regarding transportation program performance.

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation/transportation systems, public administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in transportation planning, program management, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of transportation policies, trends, and innovations, especially related to underserved communities.
  • Proven track record of successful program development, team management, and financial oversight.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising for transportation programs.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, government agencies, and transportation providers.
  • Current State issued Commercial Driver’s License (B) with P Endorsement
  • Dependable and safe driving history
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain 
  • Ability to pass DCF Level II background screening and drug test

 

Preferred: 

  • Knowledge of and experience with non-profit organizations, especially those focused on social equity and community development.
  • Familiarity with transportation technologies and sustainable mobility solutions.
  • Experience working with transportation planning tools and data analysis software.

Work Environment: 

This position generally works Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM but may require longer hours outside of this schedule and occasional weekends when necessary. Most work is conducted indoors but occasionally requires outdoor events. Some travel between clubs and camp is required. Occasional overnight travel may be required. 


Physical and Mental Requirements: 

· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; bending and squatting on occasion  

· Ability to lift to 20 lbs. on occasion  

· Ability to maintain a high energy level when necessary 

· High degree of emotional intelligence

Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
