Overview
Under the direction of the Theatre Director, the Production Assistant will provide practical and organizational support to the director, technical director, technical crew (designers, build crew, run crew), and actors throughout the entire production process. The Theatre Director and Production Assistant will work side by side as the Production Assistant helps with various aspects of staging a production.
Responsibilities
Prepare Youth for Success
Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
I. Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where actors can develop their collaboration and performance skills throughout the entire production process.
II. Assist the director with rehearsal and production needs such as documenting details, helping with backstage operations and technical elements, and providing guidance to actors.
III. Communicate production information and needs between the production team and actors and their parents/guardians.
Program Development and Implementation
- Prepare and maintain the stage and backstage to ensure all areas are safe, organized, and functional for all rehearsals and performances.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with the production team to provide support in areas where it is needed.
- Apply adaptability, time management, and organizational skills to ensure a smooth execution of rehearsals and performances.
Supervision
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in all mandatory BGCNSMC meetings and trainings.
I. Ensure the safety and supervision of all Club members.
II. Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized facility.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong background in Acting, Directing, and/or Theatre or Performing Arts.
- Experience in working with youth.
- Knowledge of youth development.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to engage respectfully with youth, the general public, parents, coworkers, and others.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth and adapt them to meet skill levels.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Must pass Criminal Record background check.
Preferred
- B.A. or A.A. in Theatre or Performing Arts.
- Experience teaching Theatre or Performing Arts to youth.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (to be arranged if not current).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to physically respond to children and their needs.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend frequently.
- Ability to sit and write/type as needed.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
