PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The CAPS Dismissal Aide is responsible for coordinating the safe, efficient, and organized dismissal of students participating in the Expanded Learning Program. This position ensures students are released only to authorized individuals, maintains accurate dismissal records, supports positive interactions with families, and upholds all district and organizational safety procedures. (This is a contracted position partnering with San Bernardino Unified School District and staff work hours are based on the school calendar schedule.)


KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

 

Student Dismissal & Safety

  • Coordinate daily student dismissal procedures in accordance with site and district protocols.
  • Use radio communication to request students for pick-up in a timely and organized manner.
  • Verify authorized pick-up individuals by matching a valid government-issued photo ID with AERIES contact information before releasing students.
  • Enforce all Expanded Learning sign-out procedures and student safety policies.
  • Monitor and supervise the dismissal area to ensure student safety at all times.
  • Maintain an orderly flow of student release to reduce congestion and wait times.
  • Supervise students awaiting pick-up using PBIS strategies and reinforcing positive behavior expectations.
  • Support smooth student transitions from program areas to the dismissal location.
  • Report behavioral, medical, or safety concerns promptly to the Site Coordinator.
  • Assist with crowd control during high-volume dismissal periods.


Customer Service & Communication

  • Greet parents, guardians, and visitors professionally while representing the organization positively.
  • Communicate dismissal procedures clearly and consistently.
  • Answer routine parent questions and refer concerns to the Site Coordinator when appropriate.
  • Support conflict prevention and de-escalation using professional communication techniques.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with students, families, school staff, and coworkers.


Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate AERIES records, dismissal logs, and sign-out documentation.
  • Ensure all dismissal documentation is complete and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.
  • Ensure the dismissal area is secure before leaving each day.
  • Follow all district safety policies, emergency procedures, and organizational expectations.
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development.
  • Complete additional duties as directed by program leadership.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May participate in special programs and/or events.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

 

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

 

  • High School diploma or GED Required.
  • Must have at least 48 semester/72 quarter college units, College Degree or pass School District ESSA test. 
  • Candidates must be 18 years or older (21 years old at High School locations).
  • Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
  • Experience working with children (volunteer work counts.)
  • Knowledge of youth development stages.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
  • Valid State Driver License or California ID card.
  • Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check.
  • CPR & First Aid Certifications within 90 of hire.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, carts, sports equipment, etc. and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and multi-task. The job requires about 85% walking and/or standing, and 15% sitting. This position will be in-person working at a school site. Exposure to noise. Will work inside and outside.
