Job Summary:
NOTE: This is a foundation-funded position that will provide support from the Chad Smith Foundation for the Boys & Girls Club Music Program. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee is a partner with CSM for this initiative. The Boys & Girls Club Music Program Advisor will be an employee of Boys & Girls Clubs.
Lead music lessons for club members at assigned club while also overseeing the broader music program, including Advisor curriculum, program development, and impact tracking.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation and consistency of the music program, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Assists in managing the overall program structure including lesson planning standards, recital coordination, and program logistics outside of individual lessons.
- Works with club leadership to ensure the music program operates smoothly and aligns with the mission and standards of the Boys & Girls Club.
- Assembles the semester-long curriculum syllabus according to selected instrument which includes a recital/performance at a future date.
- The Advisor is responsible for their own personal instrument.
- Conduct 50-minute music lessons on assigned scheduled days with 10-to-20-minute breaks in-between lessons.
- Conduct lessons for age groups of 9 to 12 and 13 to 17 years old with cohorts of no more than 6 members at a time. Start times will be established with the club manager supervisor.
- Communicates the philosophy, objectives, standards, and programs of the Boys & Girls Club, through all methods available to members, their parents, and the public.
- Develops and maintains positive climate and environment with program space.
- Maintains a safe, neat, and organized workspace.
- Encourages emotional, social, and educational growth of individual members.
- Must participate in required training courses by the Club, County, State, and/or funders.
Education Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years old and a high school graduate. Bachelor’s degree or professional certification preferred.
- Experience Requirements:
- At least one year of experience as a performing/practicing musician.
- Prior teaching or instructional experience preferred.
- Experience in leadership, program coordination, or mentoring other instructors preferred.
Skills:
- Comfortable providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to other instructors.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities including instruction and program coordination.
- Ability to keep youth ages 9-17 enthusiastically engaged in programming.
- Highly organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to relate effectively with diverse populations.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must have a valid WI driver’s license, good driving record, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums
