Job Summary:

Responsible for administering all aspects of a competitive FIRST Lego League or Robotics team, adhering to the guidelines and expectations that are set forth from Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM), FIRST Lego League, and/or FIRST Robotics Competition. In addition to weekly coaching, the Lego/Robotics Coach is responsible for the scheduling of practices and competitions, competition day management, and equipment management. This also includes recruitment and retention of team members and other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Club Manager or Area Director. This is a seasonal position lasting between 8-12 weeks at a time.


Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and supervises the weekly operations of a competitive FIRST Lego League (FLL) or FIRST Robotics team, including scheduling and managing practices and games

for a team of up to 15 members.

  • Ensures the FLL or FIRST Robotics team achieves program targets and expected outcomes.
  • Assists in recruiting and retaining students for FLL or Robotics program activities.
  • Ensures compliance for program contracts including those with community partners and private and public funders.
  • Monitors and tracks attendance data and provides this data to the site’s data entry team on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Submits program reports as requested.


Safety

  • Follows all BGCGM, BGCA, FLL, and/or FIRST Robotics policies, especially as it relates to the safety of youth.
  • Inspects the program space and equipment regularly for any hazards, uncleanliness, etc.
  • Assists to ensure building security and the safety of staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Knows all emergency procedures for the facility.
  • Ensures proper documentation of all issues and incidents related to the team.


People Power

  • Meets regularly with Supervisor to discuss the program’s goals, objectives, challenges, and strengths.
  • Participates in required trainings by the Club, County, State, and/or funder.


Financial Responsibility

  • Track and manage equipment inventory and submit timely supply order requests.


Education Requirements:

  • Associate Degree preferred
  • High School Diploma required
  • High School or Post-Secondary transcripts proving at least one coding-related course has been successfully completed is required


Experience Requirements:

  • At least one year of experience in FLL or FIRST Robotics Competition playing or coaching as demonstrated by a letter from a coach or certificates of participation OR demonstratable

knowledge of FLL or FIRST Robotics programming as documented through BGCGM’s interview process.

  • At least one year of proven experience in delivery of programming for young people between

the ages of 11-18.

  • Demonstratable knowledge of coding in SPIKE Prime, LEGO Mindstorms, EV3 Lab, or Python (FLL) and/or in C/C or LabVIEW (FIRST Robotics) as documented through

BGCGM’s interview process.

  • Must complete before working with youth:

o Suspected Child-Abuse Mandated Report Training (SCAN-MART) or equivalent.

  • Must complete within 6 months of hire:

o CPR

o First Aid

o Abusive Head-Trauma Training, if required.


Required Skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot technology concerns as they arise.
