Summary


Starting August 2026, the Early Care and Education Center at Plymouth State University will operate under the umbrella of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire. This high-quality early childhood program serves as both a nurturing learning environment for young children and a hands-on training site for university students. Grounded in developmentally appropriate, play-based practices, the center supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth while fostering strong partnerships with families and the university community.

Duties


Prepare Youth for Success

  • Creates a responsive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes Youth Development Outcomes while serving as a demonstration site for best practices in early childhood education.
  • Responds sensitively to the interests, requests, and developmental needs of individual members; interacts positively; encourages inquiry and exploration; and models positive child guidance strategies for college observers and practicum students.
  • Models appropriate and nurturing child guidance using positive guidance strategies, including the Pyramid Model Framework.
  • Designs and implements curriculum grounded in emergent practices, using intentional planning that is transparent and instructional for observers.
  • Uses systematic member observation and documentation (anecdotal notes, developmental assessments, portfolios, learning stories, etc.) as tools for curriculum planning and as teaching tools for practicum students learning assessment methods. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Establishes and maintains program goals that prioritize member health, safety, and social-emotional well-being, while demonstrating regulatory compliance (NH Child Care Licensing Regulations, Boys & Girls Clubs of America safety rules) and ethical practice.
  • Ensures ongoing program evaluation, including tracking outcome metrics and reflecting on practices with teaching staff and college students/mentees.
  • Engages each family, maintains ongoing communication with classroom families, including daily communications, regular written communication, planning, and conducting parent conferences and family education events.
  • Continuously accounts for members in the assigned group by name and face, modeling active supervision and safety protocols.
  • Oversees implementation of NAEYC standards, GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, and BGCCNNH and CCLU policies, explicitly connecting accreditation standards to classroom practices for student learning.
  • Dispenses medications according to company policy, administers first aid as needed, and communicates appropriately with families—modeling professional responsibility and documentation practices.
  • Maintains a well-organized, safe, and aesthetically intentional classroom environment that reflects best practices in early childhood settings and serves as a learning model for observers. Assists with cleaning and upkeep of the classroom.


Program Development, Implementation, and Supervision

  • Facilitates open, professional, and reflective communication with families, staff, members, and college/university partners.
  • Leads classroom staff, college practicum students, observers, and volunteers; provides structured feedback, mentoring, and evaluation aligned with college/university/grant expectations when applicable.
  • Leads or participates in collaborative planning meetings with the teaching team and may facilitate reflective discussions that include student educators and adult learners.
  • Increases visibility of programs through daily schedule postings, documentation displays, family communication, and digital platforms to showcase member learning and pedagogical approaches.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of members, staff, and the demonstration site mission.

Requirements


Minimum qualifications
:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, Pre-School Education, Youth Development, or Elementary Education with at least 6 credits in Early Childhood or Pre-School Education and 3-5 years of experience in teaching young children (B-5).
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood, Pre-School Education, Youth Development, or Elementary Education with at least 6 credits in Early Childhood or Pre-School Education and 3 years of experience in teaching young children (B-5). Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement current methods, principles, and techniques of ECE teaching, including constructivism, emergent curriculum, project work, and the Pyramid Model Framework.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and application.
  • Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behavior.
  • Ability to motivate members and manage behavior problems with patience using positive guidance strategies and the Pyramid Model Framework.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Ability to communicate with staff, families, college students, and adult learners in a variety of methods.
  • Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Meet the needs, abilities, and interests of the children. Observe, assess, and record children’s progress and maintain children’s records, including for special education or early intervention.
  • Must be trained in supervision, coaching, and mentoring of adult learners.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications per Bureau of Childcare licensing requirements.
  • Must obtain a NH Credential within 6 months of start date.
  • Must obtain required NH health and safety trainings within 90 days from the hire date.
  • Must obtain full Pyramid Model e-Module training within one year of the start date.
  • May be required to drive the Club van/short bus periodically.
  • Must possess a safe driving record and submit a copy of such record to either the Operations Director

or the Human Resources department.

  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be willing to travel between locations when requested. (Only occasional travel is required)


ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • All of the candidates that are offered a job with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire will have to submit to an FBI fingerprint background check and submit to a background check through the State of NH Criminal Records Dept. and FirstAdvantage. Note: The State of NH Childcare Licensing Bureau may prohibit you from being employed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire should there be a disqualifying finding on your criminal record. In addition, even if the State of NH reviews your records and allows you to work at the Club, we still reserve the right to determine your employment status.
  • Obtain NH Health Record within 60 days of hire.
  • Expected to meet monthly with the Director and complete the annual evaluations process. Participate in college student or adult learner meetings. Attend staff meetings, participate in committees, and work on special projects. Follow and uphold all procedures and policies of the BGCCNNH, Keene State College, and Plymouth State University as applicable. Ensure supervising and teaching with the most updated professional knowledge and information by attending conferences, workshops, and keeping current with course literature. Maintain professional development hours as determined by NH Credential. Assume administrative designation in the director’s absence.
