TITLE: Kid's Cafe Cook
DEPARTMENT: Program (Cafe)
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We are looking for a dependable Cook to join our team and support our food program. The ideal candidate is ServSafe certified, able to work five (5) days per week, and has experience working in compliance with USDA food regulation guidelines. You will prepare, pack and serve meals for all four sites, maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, and ensure proper food handling and storage practices are followed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and cook meals and snacks according to set menus and nutritional guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dishwashing area.
- Follow all USDA, local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
- Wash and sanitize all kitchen equipment, pots, pans, and utensils.
- Maintain food service facilities and equipment in a sanitary condition.
- Record and maintain accurate logs for food safety and reporting.
- Support menu planning in collaboration with supervisors.
- Serve meals to youth in appropriate portion sizes.
- Dispose of food and kitchen waste in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Must be ServSafe certified at the time of application
- Must be available to work five (5) days per week
- Must be knowledgeable in USDA food guidelines and compliant food prep
- Minimum of 2 months of regular cooking experience
- Experience with quantity food prep or kitchen maintenance preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in cooking/food safety is a plus
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to work independently
- Valid state driver's license
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills
EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE
Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience advanced training in cooking preparation/safety highly desired. Sufficient education to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for full shifts
- Lift/push/pull up to 35 lbs frequently, and up to 60 lbs occasionally
- Reach overhead and perform repetitive tasks such as bending, squatting, and twisting.
Work Environment & Hazards
- Exposure to hot surfaces, ovens, grills, and kitchen equipment
- Use of sharp kitchen tools and cleaning chemicals
- Fast-paced, dynamic environment interacting with youth and staff
