Position Overview

The Seasonal Youth Mentor Professional (SYMP) plays an important role in creating a safe, engaging, and positive environment for youth during the summer program. SYMPs are responsible for leading groups of members ranging from Kindergarten (K) through 6th grade, facilitating both indoor and outdoor activities, and supporting the social, emotional, and physical development of members.

This position requires strong leadership, creativity, and the ability to build positive relationships with youth while maintaining a structured and supportive environment throughout the program day.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Ensure our members are safe
  • Build transformative relationships with members
  • Lead and supervise a group of members throughout the program day
  • Facilitate enriching indoor and outdoor programs/activities
  • Encourage teamwork, creativity, and positive behavior among members
  • Support members in developing social, emotional, and leadership skills

Experience is preferred, but we are equally willing to train.

All qualified candidates will be screened with fingerprinting, background checked, and TB tests before being hired.

Job Type: Part-time 5 hours per day

Hours:

Program Hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Morning Shift Monday - Friday: 5 hours falling in between 7:30am-2:00pm
  • Afternoon Shift Monday - Friday: 5 hours falling in between 12:00pm-6:00pm

Program Dates: Thursday June 4th- Friday August 7th

This Job will start as soon as your second interview, fingerprints, TB test, references, and background check are processed and cleared by the BGCF hiring panel.

  • Ability to implement Boys & Girls Clubs of the Foothills curriculum and activities
  • Preferred – Ability to drive club minivans for transporting students
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office programs

  • The ability to stand and walk several hundred yards a day is the expectation during a work shift. Sitting with members occurs, but is less frequent.
  • Physically fit with the ability to play and participate in activities with members
  • Talk or hear; use hands; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and may be infrequently required to run.
  • Must remain physically fit enough to keep children safe in an emergency.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties.
  • The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when members are present.
