Job Title: Program Staff
Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Branch Director, provide supervision of students on site as well as assist staff with implementation of program, materials, attendance and record keeping.
Representative Duties:
- Supervise inside and outside play, arts and craft activities; oversee participate in literacy/mathematics portion and homework completion activities.
- Assist in completion and correction of homework.
- Maintain discipline and ensure a safe environment.
- Help provide a comfortable, safe and stimulating environment to effectively meet the needs of children.
- On-going communication with staff, students, parents, school personnel and other community members.
Perform related duties assigned that include but are not limited to:
- Assisting in completion of all assigned paperwork, answering of the program telephone and maintaining a structure and consistency for the program.
- Prepare and follow a plan of on-going daily and weekly activities and special projects.
- Participate in program-related meetings as required.
- Maintain neat classroom environments. Help to build in children's regular participation in the clean up and maintenance of the classroom into the program structure.
- Assist in supervising snack distribution and clean-up daily.
- Administer basic first aid as required.
- Participate in available workshops and training programs.
Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, practices and procedures used in maintaining an effective and cooperative After School Program of activities for children.
- Policies governing the conduct and safety of program participants.
- Principles of supervision.
- Basic first aid & CPR practices.
- Recreational activities for children of a variety of ages.
Abilities to:
- Work independently without close supervision.
- Follow oral & written instructions.
- Maintain an understanding of the needs and behavior of children of a variety of ages.
- Prepare and follow a program of daily, weekly and special activities and projects.
- Gain the confidence of children of a variety of ages.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Administer basic first aid & CPR.
Education & Experience
Must be 18 years old. High School diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent. Valid California Driver's License
Licenses & Other Requirements
Valid First-Aid Certificate and CPR issued by an authorized agency preferred and maintained on an as needed basis.
Working Conditions
Environment:
- Classroom and playground equipment.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time supervising student activities.
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to store supplies.
- Kneeling and crouching or bending at the waist to assist students.
- Participate in outside sport activities with children.
Hazards:
- Incumbents may have contact with blood or other body fluids from ill or injured children.
Schedule: Weekday afternoons
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $16.50 per hour
