POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swim Team Coach is responsible for providing direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for members on the swim team between the ages of 5-18 at the Alfred Elson, Jr. Clubhouse. Swim Coaches work with members on weekdays and weekends, facilitating practices and overseeing swim meets. The swim season runs from October through March, with a shorter spring season in April and May. Weekly stipend: $275 for 25 weeks.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Each of the following areas of responsibility is designed to further the organization’s mission of preparing youth for success by inspiring and enabling young people from Pawtucket and surrounding communities, especially those with greatest need, to realize their full potential as healthy, productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
- Provides a high quality, competitive environment to train and motivate young athletes between the ages of 5-18 in the sport of swimming
- Acts as a role model for all swimmers
- Plans and supervises daily workouts focused on developing stroke techniques, endurance, and overall skill improvement for individuals and the team as a whole
- Supports efforts to maintain high team spirit which may include attending functions such as fundraisers or team sponsored events
- Develops positive relationships with members and their families
- Communicates schedules and updates throughout the season with members and their families
- Ensures aquatics program areas are safe, clean, well-ventilated and well-lit, and that the facilities and equipment are properly maintained and meet all state/local codes and licensing requirements
- Ensures members and guests comply with all rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility
- Ensures all Emergency Operation Plan policies and Aquatic Safety Plan measures are always followed
- Annually completes a minimum of 20 hours of training related to job responsibilities
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum age of 18.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid Certifications
- Demonstrated ability of approved standards swim instructor skills
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to youth development, group leadership skills and an understanding of group dynamics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sports, fitness, and recreation programming as well as aquatic programs, instruction and coaching techniques.
- Lifeguard and Basic Swimming Instructor Certification is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are also required.
