What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Programs Area Director position at Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark & Simi Valley?
The Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark & Simi Valley is seeking a Full-Time Youth Programs Area Director, serving the community Simi Valley. This is a non-exempt position, Monday through Friday,. Some weekends and evenings are required throughout the year.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Youth Programs Area Director is responsible for providing thought leadership, direction and oversight of operations and youth programs.. The Youth Programs Area Director will develop and implement strategy for positive youth development and member experience including safety, program quality, and partnership development. The Youth Programs Area Director also provides strategic direction, guidance and support to Club supervisors including employee recruitment, retention and training. The Youth Programs Area Director will collaborate with senior leadership to develop and monitor organizational goals, strategy, planning, grant funded program alignment, fiscal management, facilities, technology, transportation and human resources.
Key Responsibilities include:
Leadership
1. Provide leadership and direction to Site Coordinators and operations team to develop, implement and evaluate operational policies and procedures, with special attention to compliance and safety.
2. Manages Program & Operations staff including recruiting and onboarding a diverse and qualified staff, training and continued education, identifying performance objectives, and monitoring and providing feedback on performance.
3. Ensure all program staff have proper onboarding and continuous professional development plans, facilitating the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
4. Works with Site Coordinators to determine Club staffing levels that best support effective program delivery, budget compliance and ensures safety; seeks support from Human Resources.
5. Ensure that all grant deliverables are achieved at the Clubs, including successful execution of grant reports and program requirements.
6. Develops membership optimal and average daily attendance targets and plans and executes strategies to achieve target numbers.
7. Provides leadership and direction to operations on managing crisis situations.
Strategic Planning
1. Serves as a member of the Program & Operations Team and is responsible for key aspects of the organization's strategic plan.
2. Evaluates & ensures the development and implementation of a strategic planning process for overall Club programs, including the development of annual program objectives & consistent programming with Boys & Girls Clubs of America five core areas- Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.
3. Ensures quality improvement of programs by conducting program evaluations and annual written analysis of member needs and interests. Compiles monthly statistical reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation.
4. Commits to data-driven decision making with a focus on Optimal Club Experience and Optimal Staff Experience.
Resource Management
1. Manage administrative and operational processes, working with senior leadership to ensure the safety of staff and members in assigned buildings, facilities and equipment.
2. Analyzes Programs & Operation needs, assists in budget development that supports those needs. Monitors budget and reports variances in revenue and expenditures.
3. Oversees grant allocated programs. Ensure budget aligns with expenditures, including payroll, billing and purchasing as assigned.
Partnership Development
1. Develop and grow collaborative partnerships with public, civic groups, and social agencies within the community. Represents the organization and interprets its objectives, standards, and programs.
2. Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, school district and community organizations.
3. Ensure school district goals and outcomes align with Club operations for ASES and ELO-P year-round program members.
4. Collaborates with Resource Development team to develop grant proposals and obtain and report on outcomes
5. Serve as liaison with school district to meet program plan goals and outcomes. Ensure all sites are compliant with program requirements. Work with schools to meet student needs, optimal enrollment and program expansion as needed.
Marketing and Public Relations
1. Develops and maintains public relations, promoting and stimulating membership within the Clubs. Coordinates all publicity for programs and services within the Clubs and the community.
2. Serves as an organization spokesperson.
3. Consistently collaborates with Marketing Coordinator to ensure Club programs & services are accurate and up to date on all marketing material.
4. Submits weekly marketing information for promotion & recognition of members, staff, programs and events. Ensures information is accurate and description of activities promote the organization’s impact in the community.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
· A minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization experience in planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, with an additional two years’ experience at the Club Director level, or equivalent experience.
· Thorough knowledge of recreation and youth development.
· Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and retention of key personnel.
· Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Strong computer skills, including excel, word and outlook.
· Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
· Ability to deal effectively with members discipline problems.
· Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.
· Leadership skills, including strategic thinking and execution, project management, problem solving, decision making, and delegation.
· Skills in fundraising events.
