Job Overview:
The AmeriCorps STEM & Digital Media Member will support the planning and delivery of technology-based programs that promote creativity, learning, and digital skill-building for youth. The role includes assisting with hands-on STEM activities, mentoring members as they explore digital tools, and helping ensure a safe and engaging environment during daily Club programming. This is an opportunity to inspire youth through technology while gaining valuable experience and earning an education award.
Essential Duties:
- Lead and assist with STEM and digital media activities that promote learning, engagement, and creativity.
- Provide guidance and mentorship as youth explore coding, digital arts, and hands-on technology projects.
- Support small groups through project-based learning in areas such as robotics, media creation, and makerspace activities.
- Help youth build digital literacy skills through structured, age-appropriate lessons.
- Maintain attendance records, project logs, and basic program documentation.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and AmeriCorps service events.
- Supervise youth during daily activities and ensure a safe, positive environment.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and general program support as needed.
- Collaborate with staff to highlight youth projects and encourage participation in STEM enrichment.
- Perform additional STEM or enrichment-related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Program Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead STEM and digital media programs that support the mission and academic goals of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County.
- Facilitate group activities, tech-based learning sessions, and project-based experiences that build creativity, problem-solving, and digital skills.
- Support hands-on enrichment that encourages curiosity and aligns with BGCLC’s academic success initiatives.
- Assist with family events, youth showcases, and community-based STEM or digital media projects that highlight member learning and engagement.
Time Commitment:
- Complete 900 service hours during the term (09/05/2025 – 06/30/2026).
- Participate in all mandatory Days of Service and required trainings.
- Serve during designated direct-service times, including after-school programs, non-school days, special events, and family engagement activities.
Education Award/Scholarship: $3,697.50 upon completion of the service term, which can be applied toward college tuition or student loans, and a living allowance paid bi-weekly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.
- Successful completion of background checks and fingerprinting.
- Interest in STEM, digital media, and supporting youth development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with diverse youth and staff.
- Reliability, enthusiasm for learning new tools, and flexibility to serve some evenings or weekends as needed.
