Job Description

TITLE: Lead Youth Development Professional

REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator, Area Director, and/or Director of Operations

__ Exempt X Non-Exempt

PAY RATE: $15-$18/Hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The LEAD Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for planning, implementation, and ACTIVE supervision of all activities of a group of youth at the Boys & Girls Club. S/he serves as a positive role model for Club members ages 5-18. The LEAD YDP will actively engage with youth in all activities providing supervision and direction, activity instruction, assistance and support in order to support the BGCA priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Program Development

· Develop and maintain the programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes for a specific age group of members.

Staff Management

· Supervise and assist in the performance evaluation of YDPs in the assigned area in achieving goals by providing direction and assistance in program implementation, compliance and evaluation.

Prepare Youth for Success

· Lead or assist with the implementation of activities designed to promote and enhance the social, emotional, physical and/or academic development of the child ages 5-18

· Serve as a positive role model to Club members by displaying a level of maturity and professionalism

Health and Safety

· Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ACTIVELY supervising members in all areas

· Manage areas and equipment and ensure a safe and productive Club environment

Grant Implementation

· Ensure the delivery of any grant funded programs: Positive Action, DESE grants, any targeted programming, etc as directed or explained by your supervisor

Program Operations

· Establish positive, respectful professional relationships with Club staff, volunteers, and members

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Understand process of and complete any paperwork required at the site including but not limited to meal counts, checklists, incident reports, and write up forms

· Clock in and out as instructed

· Take member attendance as instructed

· Ensure the supervision of the assigned member area until the last member has been picked up. On most days, this should be the Lead YDP.

· Communicate and meet with parents as needed.

· The Lead YDP is responsible for assisting with the planning and ensuring the implementation of the one of the summer camps.

· Time and Effort Timesheet may be required for grant funding purposes.

· Assume other duties as assigned

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Serves as the face of Boys & Girls Club in the community at large. Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· 24 College credit hours towards a college degree in Education, Child Development or related field preferred, and/or equivalent experience.

· Minimum of two years experience working with youth and supervising volunteers

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and above average personal initiative

· Have patience and a strong desire to help those who are disadvantaged or have social needs in an unbiased manner.

· Maintain an excellent work attitude

· Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written

· Demonstrate tact, insight and leadership skills

· Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

· Listen effectively and calmly handle crisis situations

· Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems

· Work successfully with a culturally diverse staff and club members

· Respect members and their families

- Ability to manage conflicts and resolve issues in a calm and professional manner
- Knowledge of child welfare principles and practices
- Ability to create engaging and educational activities for youth
- Strong organizational skills to manage program schedules, records, and resources
