What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Childcare Workers position at Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield?
JOB SUMMARY:
1. Must be able to demonstrate and maintain at all times physical, mental and emotional ability to care for children in a way that meets the generally accepted physical, social emotional and intellectual needs of children.
2. Educators must always exercise good judgement and demonstrate an ability to handle emergency situations appropriately.
3. Educators must attend an orientation to early education and care and receive a certificate of training from StrongStart.
4. Must have proof of a physical examination within 1 year
5. Must submit a copy of immunization records which must include 2 MMR vaccinations unless religious reasons prohibit this then a letter from a Health Care Professional is needed.
6. A statement of any limitations working with children
7. Must be 18 years of age or older
8. Must obtain certification in First Aid within 6 months and remain current
9. Have a High School diploma or equivalent, 6 months experience working with school age children
10. Ability to actively oversee a busy environment.
11. Offer alternative activities to meet every child’s needs
12. Strong communication skills (primarily verbal), patience, and positive caring attitude.
13. Demonstrated skills in working with youth ages 5-12
14. Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, and conducting group sessions and activities with youth.
15. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan with help from Child Care Director.
16. Abide by and support the Club mission- to inspire and enable all youth to reach their full potential, as caring, productive, and responsible citizens.
17. Maintain and update attendance records and give to Child Care Director daily.
18. Submission of weekly lesson plans to childcare director for the grade you are responsible for.
19. Coordinate with Child Care Director on all programming needs making sure supplies and needs are met.
20. Maintain the cleanliness before, during and after all activities in all areas of the club that you utilize.
21. Promote recognition of members as evidence by names, photos, notes, and artwork on walls and bulletin boards.
22. All time off requests go through the Licensed Child Care Director.
23. Responsible for overseeing any assistant, volunteer or intern within your group.
24. Any and all serious issues regarding staff or children will be brought to the attention of the Child Care Director or Chief Operating Officer Immediately.
25. Before approaching a parent with an issue with their child, you must inform the Child Care Director that you are doing so, then document the incident and give to the Director who will then have the Chief Operating Officer also sign off.
26. If you are going to be out sick call the club first thing in the morning and speak with Charisse. Calling late in the day for anything other than an emergency could result in termination.
27. Never sit when you are with your children unless you are engaged in activities with them.
28. Allergies and other medical information posted and followed if it pertains to a child in your group.
29. Perform other duties as assigned
REPORTS TO: Licensed Child Care Director & Program Director(s)
Job Requirements
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
· Be on time for your shift.
· Attend required monthly staff meeting.
· Complete all required EEC trainings
· Possess current certificates in and be able to perform CPR/ First Aid (or be willing to be certified upon hire).
· Must be able to sit, stand, walk or run for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to squat or bend to communicate at youths’ level.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
· Must be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and/or on field trips.
· Ability to maintain high energy level when necessary
· Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
· Related work experience equal to this position. Minimum of 2 years.
· Able to pass a Background Record Check
· Knowledge of principles related to development of youth between 5 and 12 years of age
· Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues
· Required Work Attire: Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield Staff Shirt or Sweatshirt, Jeans/leggings/pants/Capris with no holes or rips. If shorts are worn, they must touch top of knee and cannot be any shorter.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
