Status: Full-Time, Salaried
Work Schedule: Typical hours are Monday–Friday, approximately 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., with flexibility required for occasional evenings, weekends, special events and organizational needs.

Approved Salary Range: $45,000 to $60,000 per year
Initial Training Location: Portage, Indiana / Administrative Office and designated Boys & Girls Clubs
Future Placement: Lake or Porter County, Indiana

Position Summary

Are you an experienced youth development, nonprofit, education, or operations leader looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while preparing to lead a Club in your community?

The Club Director – Leadership Development Program position is designed for an experienced professional who is ready to lead at the Club Director level and grow within Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. The successful candidate will initially be based in Portage, Indiana, working from the Administrative Office and training alongside several experienced Club Directors at multiple Club locations.

Rather than stepping into a new Club without support, this position provides the opportunity to gain firsthand experience with different Club operations, leadership styles, programs, staffing models and community environments. The goal is to provide a comprehensive leadership experience while preparing the selected candidate for a permanent Club Director placement in Lake or Porter County, Indiana, as a Club becomes available.

The Club Director is responsible for directing and managing the overall day-to-day operations of a designated Boys & Girls Club. Primary areas of responsibility include program quality, staff leadership and development, member engagement, facility operations, community relationships, membership administration, safety and financial management.

This position requires a visible, hands-on leader who can build relationships, develop staff, create a positive Club culture and ensure that young people have a safe, engaging and supportive environment in which to thrive.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and support Club operations while developing an in-depth understanding of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana programs, systems, policies and expectations.
• Train alongside multiple experienced Club Directors to gain exposure to different Club environments, operational models and community partnerships.
• Establish and maintain programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and support organizational priority outcomes.
• Create a safe, positive and welcoming Club environment where members and staff feel valued, supported and empowered.
• Provide effective leadership, supervision, coaching and professional development to Club staff and volunteers.
• Recruit, retain, motivate and develop high-performing Club staff.
• Oversee Club programs, services and activities to ensure they meet established objectives and respond to the needs and interests of members.
• Monitor attendance, participation, program quality and other key performance indicators and prepare required reports.
• Maintain a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are properly maintained.
• Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to support effective Club operations and appropriate use of Club facilities.
• Manage Club financial resources, assist with annual budget development and monitor expenditures to ensure responsible fiscal management.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents, schools, community leaders, businesses, donors and community organizations.
• Build public awareness and support for Club programs, services and activities.
• Demonstrate ownership and pride in creating and sustaining a strong Club culture through leadership, inspiration and accountability.
• Maintain regular contact with members and staff and provide appropriate guidance, coaching, discipline and support.
• Address member and staff concerns using organizational policies, procedures and established guidance and discipline practices.
• Support and participate in special events, organizational initiatives and community activities.
• Build strong collaborative relationships with internal departments and external partners.
• Once a permanent Club Director opening becomes available in Lake or Porter County, transition into the designated Club leadership role and assume full responsibility for the Club's day-to-day operations.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

We are seeking an experienced leader who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, youth-focused environment and is ready to take ownership of a Club's operations and culture.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• At least two years of experience in youth development, education, nonprofit management, Boys & Girls Clubs, recreation, childcare, community programming, operations or a related field.
• Experience leading, supervising, coaching and developing staff.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain and motivate employees.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Experience with budgeting, financial management and resource allocation.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to build authentic relationships with youth, families, employees, community leaders and organizational partners.
• Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Patience, sound judgment and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
• Ability to establish expectations, hold others accountable and provide constructive coaching.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office or comparable programs.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize organizational systems and technology.
• Knowledge of youth development principles and/or nonprofit operations preferred.
• Experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth-serving organization preferred.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check.
• Ability to successfully complete a drug screen for federally illegal substances.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Leadership Development & Future Placement

This position provides a unique opportunity to learn the organization from multiple perspectives before assuming permanent Club leadership.

During the initial assignment, the Club Director will:

• Work from the Portage Administrative Office as needed for organizational training and development.
• Spend time at multiple Boys & Girls Clubs alongside experienced Club Directors.
• Learn organizational systems, expectations, programs, staffing practices and operational standards.
• Build relationships with Club leadership and administrative teams.
• Gain firsthand experience with different Club populations, staffing structures and community partnerships.
• Receive coaching and feedback from experienced organizational leaders.
• Prepare for a permanent Club Director assignment in Lake or Porter County, Indiana when an appropriate position becomes available.

This structure is intended to provide the selected candidate with a strong organizational foundation and the tools necessary to successfully lead a Club long-term.
