The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is dedicated to inspiring and enabling young people—especially those who need support the most—to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring individuals. Serving the Garfield community, the Club provides a safe and welcoming environment where youth can learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships.
Operating from its own standalone facility, the Club offers a wide range of programs including a gymnasium, computer lab, arts and crafts spaces, academic support, and STEM activities. Guided by core values of teamwork, leadership, and positivity, trained staff create an inclusive environment where young people build confidence, develop life skills, and form lifelong friendships through engaging educational and recreational opportunities.
The Board Trustee plays a vital leadership role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield. Trustees help ensure the organization remains aligned with its mission while providing oversight, guidance, and advocacy for programs that serve youth in the Garfield community.
Board Trustees work collaboratively with fellow board members and the executive leadership team to shape policies, strengthen organizational sustainability, and support strategic initiatives. Trustees also serve as ambassadors for the organization by promoting the Club’s work, cultivating community relationships, and helping expand awareness and support for its programs.
- Participate in five in-person board meetings annually.
- Provide strategic guidance and governance oversight to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission
- Review and monitor financial performance and organizational sustainability
- Support and promote the organization’s fundraising efforts
- Participate in and support 2–3 fundraising events annually, helping with outreach, sponsorships, or event participation
- Serve as an ambassador for the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield within the community and professional networks
This is a volunteer leadership position that offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people in the Garfield community. Trustees commit to attending five in-person board meetings annually and supporting 2–3 fundraising events each year, while serving as advocates for the organization’s mission and long-term success.
