Job Description: Front Desk Assistant

40 hours/week, Summer Camp Seasonal

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Boys & Girls Club of Burlington is seeking a Summer Camp Seasonal Front Desk Assistant to help create a welcoming, organized, and supportive environment for Club members and families during our summer camp. This position serves as the first point of contact for visitors and plays an important role in helping daily Club operations run smoothly.

Because the front desk is centrally located within the building, this position helps set the tone for the day. The person in this role will actively contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for summer campers through consistent engagement, relationship building, and clear expectations. This is a people-focused role best suited for someone who enjoys interacting with children throughout the day.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Serve as the initial point of contact, greeting club members, their families and other visitors, and answering the telephone
  • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and professional front desk environment
  • Help manage the flow of Club member foot traffic during program hours
  • Maintain the Club member database, including basic data entry and membership updates
  • Positively interact with summer campers throughout the day and help reinforce behavioral expectations
  • Maintain awareness of activity throughout the building and help support a safe environment
  • Communicate clearly and positively with youth, families, staff, and visitors
  • Support daily front desk operations and general organization of the reception area
  • Assist with basic check-in and check-out procedures
  • Help communicate Club expectations and safety procedures as needed
  • Knowledge and experience with trauma informed practices
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Other duties as necessary

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Dependability is essential
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
  • Comfortable working in an active youth environment and engaging positively with youth grades 1 through 8
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft and Google products
  • Experience working with children and families is preferred
  • Must be able to pass a background check and complete required trainings
  • Optimistic, adaptable personality
  • Trauma informed experienc
  • Experience, lived or otherwise, working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as people who are LGBTQ or “first in family” to attend college

THE DETAILS

Location: 100% in-person at 62 Oak Street, Burlington, VT

Hours: Full-time, 40 hrs/week, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, June 15-August 21, 2026
Reports to: Oak Street Program Director
Compensation: $20/hour

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to remain stationed at the front desk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit and stand throughout the day
  • Ability to move throughout the building to support youth and staff, as needed
  • Ability to occasially lift up to 20 pounds
