POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Academic Success Director is the lead in building and sustaining a high quality Tutor Program and Summer Learning Labs across the Boys & Girls Club sites that have positive outcomes on youth in the area of academic success. The Academic Success Director manages the securing, training, and management of all tutors and tutor site leads for the program as well as teaching staff for the Summer Learning Labs program. This role is also responsible for the recruitment and management of the youth in the tutor program.
We are looking for the right person for this role. This role is full time but we are open to someone who would want to work 30 or up to 40 hours per week. The pay will be decided by both the experience and the scheduled hours the selected candidate wants to contribute to the role.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee program staff and volunteers to ensure all responsibilities are met.
- Manage all recruiting, hiring, training, disciplining and evaluation of staff and volunteers in the program.
- Plan and execute program budget. Manage purchasing. Ensure materials required for program excellence are acquired.
- Maintain records including, but not limited to: Attendance, eligibility status, grant documentation. Submit as appropriate in a timely manner.
- Perform all the duties of Tutor Lead or Tutor as needed.
- Build positive relationships with youth, volunteers, parents, community and schools.
- Maintain communication with staff at all Club locations to facilitate the Tutoring Program.
- Create and distribute marketing materials for the Tutoring Program.
- Adjust structure and content of the Tutoring Program as needed to maintain a high level of excellence.
- Maintain communication and relationship with our service learner partners. Fulfill any documentation requirements.
- Provide logistical, academic, and material support to Summer Learning Lab educators.
- Enforce Club rules and regulations. Proactively maintain the safety of the club members.
- Ensure the program meets grant requirements to promote highest potential grant funding. Provide statistical data to demonstrate program impact.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 or more year’s program management and childhood education experience required.
- Higher education degree preferred.
- Individuals must be knowledgeable of youth development practices.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, self-direction and creativity.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills.
- Exhibits professionalism.
- Maintains excellent working relationships with staff, volunteers and public.
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to work with people from diverse racial/cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to perform gross and fine motor activities required for typing, writing, simple manipulations such as telephone buttons, computer keyboards, fax machine buttons, etc.
- Ability to work in a professional environment and positively represent organization under various levels of stress.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
- Visual acuity for accurate reading, typing, filing and use of computer screen.
- Ability to work at a rapid pace and where frequent interruptions and changes in plans or deadlines may occur.
- Hearing is needed for purposes of business related phone communications, public broadcasts, answering incoming phone calls, etc.
- Ability to lift and carry 15 to 50 pounds for office supplies, audio equipment, and other items needed for the preparation and takedown of special events.
- Ability to operate a safe mode of transportation for publicity functions/events, transportation of supplies, and meetings.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, squat for filing and retrieval of stored files and supplies.
