TITLES/POSITIONS: Youth Development Professional at Smilow Clubhouse : Part-time position (15-20 hours per week)
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley is an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) with the mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The Boys & Girls Club of LNV is committed to fostering an “Optimum Club Experience” tailored toward quality programming that promotes academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship in all youth – especially in areas where it is needed most. All our Youth Development Professionals are responsible for implementing the 5 key elements of positive youth development: Fun, safety, recognition, opportunities & expectations and supportive relationships in their daily interactions with youth as well as within their daily program plans. Youth Development Professional (K–2 staff) Position Summary
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) supports the daily operations of the Kindergarten–2nd Grade program area. This role helps create a safe, fun, and engaging environment where young members can learn, socialize, and grow.
Youth Engagement & Supervision
- Actively supervise and interact with members in the K–2 program area.
- Build positive relationships to promote confidence and respect.
- Support daily routines, transitions, and other duties assigned by supervisor.
Program Support
- Assist with arts & crafts, recreation, homework, STEM, literacy, and SEL activities.
- Help prepare materials and maintain activity spaces.
- Encourage participation and adapt activities as needed.
Behavior Guidance
- Model positive behavior and use supportive guidance.
- Maintain structure and belonging.
- Assist with redirection and conflict resolution.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safety at all times.
- Follow all Club policies and state licensing requirements.
- Keep spaces clean, organized, and safe.
Qualifications
- Experience with children preferred.
- Ability to engage positively with ages 5–8.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass required background checks.
