Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes
- Prepare and submit accurate claims for reimbursement using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through effective medical collection practices
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and coding standards to prevent claim denials or audits
- Maintain detailed and organized medical records, including documentation of procedures, diagnoses, and billing information
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding accuracy
- Stay updated on changes in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure ongoing compliance
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, medical coding, or a related administrative healthcare role
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms for documentation and billing purposes
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately for coding purposes
- Experience with medical collection processes and insurance claim submission procedures
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
