Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Surveying Technician, based in Skowhegan, ME. The Surveying Technician will be responsible for conducting field reconnaissance for boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, and site layouts as well as boundary line marking. Applicants need to be willing and able to perform vigorous physical activity, outdoors, in a variety of terrains & weather conditions. You will be working under the license and supervision of Professionally Licensed Surveyors and Senior Survey Techs.
We are a small, family owned company that prioritizes a healthy work-life balance. We typically work Monday-Thursday with occasional Fridays during peak season. Hours vary slightly from day to day, typical schedule of 7a-5p. We serve the entire state of Maine, some overnights required for large projects that are far from the office. Valid driver's license required.
Essential Skills:
· Basic knowledge of surveying principles: Understanding fundamental surveying concepts and techniques.
· Proficiency with surveying equipment: Ability to operate and maintain common surveying instruments.
· Mathematical skills: Capable of performing basic calculations related to surveying.
· Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy in measurements and data recording.
· Physical stamina: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and potentially rugged terrain.
· Communication skills: Effectively communicating with team members and supervisors.
· Problem-solving skills: Identifying and resolving basic issues that may arise during surveys.
Responsibilities:
· Field data collection
· Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of surveying instruments and accessories such as data collectors, electronic total stations, GPS devices, levels, and tripods.
· Collect field data, measurements, angles, and elevations according to established protocols.
· Locate and verify existing survey markers and assist in placing new ones according to instructions.
· Maintain clear and accurate field notes, sketches, and other descriptive data using data collectors and field books
· Clear survey lines of brush and debris to ensure clear lines of sight.
· Implement and adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Potential for advancement:
· With experience, training, and certifications (such as the Certified Survey Technician credential from the National Society of Professional Surveyors), Field Survey Technician Level 1s can advance to higher-level technician positions, become a survey crew chief, or potentially pursue licensing as a professional surveyor depending on state regulations and further education.
