Safety Specialist

Boyd Jones Construction
Omaha, NE Full Time
POSTED ON 12/17/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/15/2026
Be the Front Line of a Strong Safety Culture

At Boyd Jones, safety isn’t a program—it’s a promise. A promise to protect our people, our partners, and the communities where we build. With more than a century of construction excellence, we believe the best projects start and finish with safe, engaged teams.

We’re looking for a Safety Specialist who wants to be in the field, make a real impact, and grow into a future safety leader. This role is ideal for someone early in their EHS career who is eager to learn, observant by nature, and confident engaging with crews to promote safe work practices every day.

If you’re motivated by teamwork, accountability, and hands-on learning, this is where your safety career begins.

Your Impact

As a Safety Specialist, you’ll be a visible presence on our jobsites—supporting inspections, identifying hazards, reinforcing safe behaviors, and helping project teams stay compliant and incident-free. You’ll work closely with field leaders, subcontractors, and the EHS team to build trust and strengthen a proactive safety culture.

You will:

  • Support daily jobsite safety activities and hazard recognition
  • Reinforce company policies, OSHA standards, and project-specific safety plans
  • Engage directly with field teams to promote safe behaviors
  • Assist with incident response, reporting, and follow-up
  • Build foundational skills for long-term growth in EHS leadership

What You’ll Do

Jobsite Safety Support & Hazard Identification

  • Conduct daily safety walks and identify unsafe conditions or behaviors
  • Communicate hazards and corrective actions clearly to field teams
  • Monitor housekeeping, material storage, and overall site organization

Safety Documentation & Reporting

  • Assist with inspections, safety logs, incident reports, JHAs, and compliance records
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on time
  • Enter data into safety systems and reporting tools

Training & Workforce Engagement

  • Support orientations, toolbox talks, and daily safety huddles
  • Participate in pre-task planning and coordination meetings
  • Build confidence leading field-level safety conversations

Compliance & Risk Support

  • Help verify subcontractor compliance and required safety documentation
  • Assist with PPE checks, signage, barricades, and hazard communication
  • Support planning and documentation for high-risk activities (lifts, excavations, hot work, LOTO)

Incident & Environmental Support

  • Assist with initial incident response, documentation, and follow-up
  • Support environmental compliance tasks such as SWPPP inspections, BMP checks, and rain event logs
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness and severe weather readiness

What Sets You Apart

You’re reliable, observant, and comfortable speaking up when something doesn’t look right.

You bring:

  • 0–3 years of construction safety or field experience
  • OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 preferred)
  • Working knowledge of basic OSHA standards and construction safety practices
  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
  • Comfort working on active construction sites in varying weather conditions
  • Computer proficiency for digital reporting and documentation
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel to jobsites

Our Values in Action

We live our values every day on the jobsite:

  • Safety: Proactively identifying hazards and reinforcing safe behaviors
  • Partnership: Building trust with field teams, subcontractors, and leadership
  • Stewardship: Managing time, documentation, and resources responsibly
  • Continuous Improvement: Learning, growing, and improving safety practices
  • Integrity: Acting fairly, professionally, and transparently at all times

Career Growth

This role is designed as a launch point for a long-term career in EHS and construction leadership. With experience and development, Safety Specialists can grow into roles such as:

Safety Specialist → Safety Manager → Senior Safety Manager → EHS Leadership Roles

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily based on active construction jobsites
  • Exposure to weather, noise, dust, and construction activity
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, and navigating uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift 25–40 lbs occasionally
  • Regular use of tablets, phones, and digital safety tools
  • PPE required at all times: hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and work boots

Why Boyd Jones

At Boyd Jones, you’ll be supported, trained, and trusted to grow. You’ll work alongside experienced builders and safety professionals who care about doing things the right way—and helping you build a meaningful career along the way.

If you’re ready to make a difference and grow your future in construction safety, we’d love to meet you.
