Education Aide (Special Education)
Campus: Intermediate/Middle School
Reports to: Principal
Position Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose
Provide instructional and classroom support to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist with classroom activities, student supervision, and instructional preparation to support student learning.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED required
Must meet ESSA requirements (associate degree, two years of college coursework, or formal academic assessment)*
Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate required
Knowledge & Skills
Ability to assist with reading, writing, and mathematics instruction
Ability to work effectively with children
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience
Prior experience working with children preferred
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Instructional Support
Work with individual students or small groups under teacher direction
Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
Help administer and score assignments and objective assessments
Maintain neat, orderly, and safe classroom environments
Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of instructional equipment
Support teachers with records, reports, and classroom organization
Provide assistance and orientation to substitute teachers
Student Supervision
Supervise students during the school day, including classroom, lunchroom, and bus duty
Communicate student needs or concerns to the teacher
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in staff development and training
Attend faculty meetings and school events as assigned
Follow district safety procedures and emergency protocols
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Moderate standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting (up to 15 lbs.)
Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to weather and noise
Ability to manage frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control
