What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mentor – School-Based Mentor (Part-Time) position at Boxing Out Negativity?
Position Summary: The Mentor provides direct support to at-risk youth within school settings, facilitating relationship-building, academic engagement, and social-emotional development. Mentors deliver peace circles, hall monitoring, behavioral interventions, and facilitate connections to additional resources. They report to Senior Mentors and play a vital frontline role in BON’s school programs.
Reports to: Senior Mentor (Site Supervisor)
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trusting relationships with students and provide individualized mentorship.
- Facilitate group sessions such as peace circles and cognitive-behavioral activities.
- Monitor hallways to ensure student attendance and engagement.
- Collaborate with school staff and families to support student success.
- Collect and submit accurate data on attendance, behavior, and progress.
- Maintain compliance with BON policies including mandatory reporting.
- Participate in training and staff meetings; contribute to continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth in educational or social service settings preferred.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal skills and reliability.
- Commitment to youth development and BON’s mission.
