What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Preparer position at Boxelder Consulting?
We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced tax professional who genuinely enjoys helping people solve complicated problems.
If you have 5 years of public accounting experience and love tax planning, client relationships, and finding creative solutions, we'd love to meet you. A CPA or Master's in Taxation is a plus, but what matters most to us is someone who's curious, collaborative, and takes pride in delivering exceptional work.
You'll spend your time preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns, advising clients on tax strategy, researching complex issues, and collaborating with a talented team of CPAs, Enrolled Agents, attorneys, and accounting professionals. Experience with bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and general ledger accounting is helpful. We use Microsoft 365 and CCH Wolter Kluwers, and we're always looking for ways to improve our processes.
Our culture is a little different than most accounting firms. Dogs are welcome in the office (seriously), collaboration is encouraged, and we believe great work happens when people actually enjoy coming to work. We invest heavily in continuing education, support professional licensing and certifications, and genuinely want our team members to build long-term careers—not just survive another tax season.
Job Duties
- Prepare and review complex individual, business, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Meet directly with clients to provide proactive tax planning, answer questions, and develop practical solutions to complex tax issues.
- Research federal and state tax laws, interpret new legislation, and apply tax strategies that maximize client outcomes while ensuring compliance.
- Review financial statements, reconcile general ledger accounts, and collaborate with bookkeeping staff to ensure accurate tax reporting.
- Mentor and support junior tax staff by reviewing work, providing technical guidance, and helping foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

If you're looking for a firm where you'll be challenged, appreciated, and surrounded by good people (and a few friendly office dogs), we'd love to hear from you.
