Purpose

Responsible for management of clients and projects focused on vegetation management with particular emphasis on fire fuel reduction, permitting, coordination with various state and federal agencies and CEQA and NEPA compliance

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution.
  • Independently and collaboratively apply extensive and diverse knowledge of vegetation control and landscape principles to lower the risk of wildfires
  • Work collaboratively with professionals from varied backgrounds to develop tools to assist in IPM and IVM implementation and communication.
  • Mentor and assist junior staff on assignment in the office and in the field.

At The Operational And Company Level

  • Utilize and assist less experienced staff in understanding technical policies and procedures during the execution of projects for clients.
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
  • Engage in business development opportunities.

Do the Work

  • Conduct complex field assessments, land use studies, and mapping and apply principles of integrated pest management (IPM) and Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) to solving problems related to the presence of undesirable vegetation in or adjacent to rights of way, utilities or other critical infrastructure.
  • Identify new client opportunities and develop proposals with details on scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Conduct field work independently or in a team environment in all types of weather conditions and throughout various terrains.
  • Prepare and direct preparation of proposals, designs, specifications, plans, estimates and reports for projects.
  • Cultivate new and maintain existing client relationships and possess solid operational insight to identify new opportunities.
  • Work with clients, staff, agency personnel, and others to perform projects.
  • Prepare proposals and manage projects.
  • Compile, analyze, and report on data collected from field work.
  • Understand client objectives and help them reach a successful outcome.
  • Engage in independent field work in adverse weather conditions and out-of-town travel.

  • Project management experience including developing proposals, budgets, management of personnel and workloads and deliverables (including technical reports and permits).

  • Understanding of project-related financial reports and metrics.
  • Understanding of business and financial principles in a consulting business.
  • Proven marketing and business development skills.
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including CEQA and NEPA.
  • A proven track record of innovation, leadership and creativity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Plant Science, Ecology, Biology, or related field required at time of employment.
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Registered Professional Forester, International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist or California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) licensed Pest Control Adviser (PCA) is a plus
  • Five or more (5 ) years of relevant industry-related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must hold a valid state driver’s license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $90,000 - $150,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Frequent outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
