Summary
The Marvin Center Student Coordinators (MCSCs) are paraprofessional undergraduate student employees who support the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement in advancing its mission through leadership development, civic engagement, and educational initiatives. MCSCs contribute to program development and facilitation, campus outreach and collaboration, event planning, and general operations, while serving as ambassadors of the Marvin Center. Through their work, they help cultivate meaningful leadership and civic learning experiences for the campus community.
This specific role will support marketing and communication efforts in the Marvin Center, including social media, promotional design work, advertising of programs, and the effective telling of the Marvin Center story.

Essential Functions
- Program Development & Facilitation (25%): Assess the needs of student organizations, student populations, and campus partners to design, develop, and facilitate interactive leadership and civic engagement programs grounded in a values-based leadership framework. Support campus initiatives such as BGSUserves and BGSU Votes by providing platform trainings, consultations, tabling support, classroom presentations, and voter education resources. Cultivate ongoing 1:1 relationships with assigned student organizations and campus partners to ensure sustained engagement and impact.
- Marketing & Communications (45%): Ideate, create, and distribute Marvin Center content, both print and digital. Utilize University brand standards to main consistent visual identity and compliance with institutional standards. Leverage multiple marketing platforms to increase awareness of the Marvin Center and promote events including, but not limited to, print media, social media, university resources, and email.
- Marvin Center Representation & Outreach (25%): Serve as an ambassador for the Marvin Center by conducting outreach to student organizations, university departments, and community partners; promoting services and programs; supporting marketing and public relations efforts; and representing the Center at campus events such as Preview Days and orientation. Maintain professionalism as a representative of the Marvin Center, the Division of Student Engagement and Success, and Bowling Green State University at all times.
- Additional Responsibilities (5%): Attend required staff meetings, supervision meetings, spring and fall trainings, retreats, and campus events; contribute to team projects and signature events; and support the overall mission, vision, and values of the Marvin Center.

MCSC Applicant Qualifications Required:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student at BGSU
- Minimum cumulative GPA (3.0)
- Commitment to continual leadership development, social change, and civic engagement.
- Prioritization of the MCSC position over other non-academic commitments
- Ability to work independently while upholding high expectations regarding detail and quality of work
- Understand the added value of collaboration, teamwork, and diverse perspectives
- Demonstrate leadership potential
Additional Information
MCSC Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to set priorities, if necessary, be self-directed, and manage time in an effective manner
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership and/or community service on campus or in the community
- Previous engagement with the Marvin Center programs (e.g., BGSUserves, BGSU Votes, Leadership Institute)
- Desire to bring positive change to themselves and the BGSU community
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and the ability to develop other computer skills as needed
Recipient Commitments and Expectations:
- Most hours will be worked as scheduled office hours between 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. During your office hours, you will have a bi-weekly one-on-one meeting with your supervisor and bi-weekly staff meetings.
- Successfully complete MCSC training prior to start date, including a spring training date and pre-semester fall training.
- Remaining hours will occur in the evenings and weekends for requested programs, staff meetings, additional trainings, admission events, Marvin Center or other Division of Student Engagement and Success.
- It is recommended that MCSCs can work at least two evenings per week.
- MCSCs are not required or expected to work during finals week, Fall Break, the week of Thanksgiving, Veterans Day, and Spring Break.
- Any student whose responsibilities do not allow them to meet these requirements cannot be an MCSC.
