BGMU is accepting applications for the position of Telecommunications Technician in the Fiber Division through April 17, 2026. The successful applicant will be perform installation, operations, and maintenance of telephony and voice data services, and will assist in the testing, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications services in the service area. Essential duties include:
- Analyzes customer phone and data networks and makes recommendations based on BGMU service offerings.
- Performs provisioning for customer VOIP/Broadband service requests.
- Analyzes network and wiring schematics and implements technical specifications based upon customer requirements.
- Uses test equipment to analyze, repair, and maintain broadband and VOIP circuits and equipment.
- Assists customers with troubleshooting assistance for Internet and VOIP Services
- Performs initial troubleshooting for Network Specialists and OSP then escalating appropriately.
- Assists in implementation and configuration of network elements being deployed.
- Performs testing and deployment of new hardware and software.
- Researches new VOIP and broadband technologies for potential consumer applications.
- Works with wholesale providers, vendors and manufacturers on evaluation of products and technology related to telecommunications services.
- Keeps detailed records of system design, construction, and operation.
- Meets with internal and external customers as required.
- Assists Network Specialists and OSP with installs of network infrastructure & cabling.
- Handles warranties on customer premises including hosted phones, routers, switches & IADs
- Maintains inventory in billing system of all VOIP Equipment
- Maintains billing system for all VOIP services (phone numbers, extensions, circuit IDs, etc)
- Performs other related work as required.
- May be subject to emergency after-hours availability.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or graduate equivalency.
- One (1) year of field experience in telephony and voice data applications.
- An Associate's degree in Networking or related field or a combination or equivalent education and experience.
- Three (3) years of VOIP experience.
