Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED, or willing to pursue a high school equivalency diploma.
At least two years of experience as a cultural liaison.
Bilingual Skills in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, Karen, Swahili, Albanian, Bosnian, Arabic, or Kirundi

Performance Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated Excellence in Key Areas The Senior Cultural Liaison is expected to demonstrate exceptional performance in four major areas:
- Family and School Communication: Delivers clear, empathetic, and proactive communication, often navigating complex cultural and linguistic differences.
- Instructional Support: Enhances classroom instruction through a deep understanding of student backgrounds, often contributing to differentiated strategies that improve learning outcomes.
- Administrative Competence: Manages sensitive documentation, schedules, and logistics with accuracy and professionalism.
- Relationship Building: Serves as a trusted cultural advisor and advocate, fostering a safe, welcoming environment for diverse students and their families.
- Initiative and Leadership The "senior" designation reflects a high level of independence, leadership, and initiative. Senior Cultural Liaisons:
- Mentor junior staff and serve as role models within the liaison team.
- Identify gaps in support or engagement and create solutions proactively.
- Participate in professional development and policy planning, bringing a culturally informed lens to broader school decisions.
- Serve as vital contributors to school climate and culture initiatives, often without direct oversight.
- Impact on Student Success and School Equity The influence of a Senior Cultural Liaison extends far beyond individual tasks. By ensuring families feel seen, heard, and valued, this position contributes directly to:
- Higher levels of family engagement.
- Increased student attendance, participation, and academic achievement.

The Senior Cultural Liaison will also demonstrate the responsibilities of the entry-level Cultural Liaison as listed below:
- Assist with Teranga Academy programming through providing cultural liaison support and translation services to families and assisting with classroom programming as assigned.
- Within the classrooms as migrant tutors, provide translation and oral communication from English to native language and from native language to English in multiple settings.
- Assist classroom teachers with instructional support during classroom lessons and assist students to better understand the classroom teacher during instruction.
- Provide support to families through translation services to build community between the home and school.
- Demonstrate English language fluency in a way that promotes student achievement and clearly supports family/school connections.
- Attend required Teranga Academy training.
- Make home visits accompanied by BGISD staff as requested to facilitate communication with parents.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding personally identifiable student information.
- Perform routine clerical duties as requested.
- Model and encourage respect and value for cultural diversity.
- Participate in professional development related to job responsibilities.
- Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
- Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.

Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.

Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.
- Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Instructional Programs, Director of Student Services, Principal, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
