District Wide Position that will serve Pre-school

 

 

Requirement: Ky Teaching Certificate for Speech OR KY SLP Licensure and ASHA certification.

 

Days of Employment: 186 days (full year)

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

1. Screen students for hearing loss, communication disorders or delays.

 

2. Provide therapy for students with voice, articulation, language, dysphagia, swallowing or fluency disorders that result in a negative impact on educational performance.

 

3. Develop, select and prescribe multimodal augmentative and alternate communication systems including aided and unaided strategies.

 

4. Attend and participate in Admissions and Release Committee meetings as case manager and service delivery coordinator for students with communication disorders.

 

5. Create, implement and maintain due process documentation for students with communication disorders.

 

6. Use norm-referenced standardized and informal assessments to determine whether students have speech and language disabilities.

 

7. Participate in professional development related to field.

 

8. Demonstrate a current and sufficient academic knowledge of certified content areas to support student knowledge and performance in those areas.

 

9. Use professional judgment and research to design and plan speech/language therapy sessions that develop student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.

 

10. Create a learning climate that supports the development of student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.

 

11. Introduce, implement, and manage interventions/or therapy that develops student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.

 

12. Use data and/or document student progress in communicative skill development and communicate results to students and others with respect to student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.

 

13. Use technology to support communication therapy as needed; assess and analyze data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conduct research.

 

14. Research and evaluate intervention and therapy programs to enhance communication skill development across the curriculum.

 

15. Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other agencies to design, implement, and support learning that develops student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.

 

16. Evaluate her/his overall performance with respect to American Speech Language and Hearing Association Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics and develop and implement a plan for professional development.

 

17. Perform professional duties and provide professional leadership with the school, community, and education profession to improve student communication skills, learning and well being.

 

18. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships within the school, community, and education profession to improve student communication skills, learning and well being.

 

19. Participate in faculty meetings, team meetings, departmental meetings, committees, and the sponsorship of student co-curricular activities as assigned.

 

20. Remain on the job during the entire school day unless excused by the Principal for emergency reasons.

 

21. Report any unusual occurrence or event to the Principal immediately (epidemic, bomb threat, thefts, child abuse, etc.)

 

22. Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.

 

23. Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.

 

24. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.

 

25. Supervise students during in-class and out-of classroom activities during the assigned working day.

 

26. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

 

27. Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the administration of clinical procedures.

 

28. Maintain appropriate professional appearance.

 

29. Adhere to the professional Codes of Ethics adopted by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board and ASHA Code of Ethics.

 

30. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.

 

31. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Principal, Associate Superintendent, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent.
