Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining the functional integrity and safety of mechanical systems in all UIC commercial and residential facilities. This includes performing a variety of tasks such as building, repairing, and installing counters, cabinets, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and roof work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Builds, repairs, and installs various components including counters, cabinets, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and roof work.
- Performs interior dry wall tasks and paint interior surfaces.
- Troubleshoots and repairs boiler systems, performs mechanical/plumbing/electrical work/repair or upgrades.
- Installs items such as window shades, window blinds, curtain rods, wall fans, door and locking hardware.
- Maintains open and responsive communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and reports any incident, situation or activity that may affect the Corporation's ability to operate safely, ethically, and effectively.
- May be on-call 24-hour days when designated by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Requirements:
- Able to speak effectively before groups of tenants or employees of organizations.
- Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized conditions.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.
- Must have specific vision abilities including close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Exposed to extreme cold, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Must tolerate stress and be a team player.
- On-call 24-hour days when designated by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- One year certificate from college or technical school, or 1-2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two to three years increasingly responsible experience in the North Slope Region and with facilities maintenance.
- Valid Alaska Driver's License, preferably Commercial Driver's License.
- Passes Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follows all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.
- Candidates must pass a background check in order to fill this position.
