What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director - Nursing position at Bowen Health?
This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and compliant care while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The DON does not have administrative direct reports but provides clinical supervision to key nursing leaders across the organization.
- Clinically supervise nursing managers in the outpatient clinics, inpatient hospital, Bowen Health Recovery Center, and Transitional Living programs.
- Establish, evaluate, and support staffing plans and workflows that are responsive to patient volume, acuity, and applicable program regulations.
- Conduct regular rounding at each clinic and program site to review nursing procedures, assess adherence to clinical standards, and support continuous improvement.
- Ensure nursing programs across the center are compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as HRSA, SAMHSA, and Joint Commission standards.
- Create, maintain, and implement nursing and medical support policies and procedures across the organization.
- Establish and implement competency and training requirements for all nursing and medical support staff.
- Support the recruitment, retention, and development of nursing and medical support staff in collaboration with administrative leaders.
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives across nursing services.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in nursing, or its equivalent from a school of nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of nursing leadership experience in public health, FQHC, integrated care or multidisciplinary nursing operations.
- Certificate or Professional License:
- Registered Nurse (RN) in state of Indiana.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - certification must be obtained after hire and prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must be maintained and kept current through employment.
- Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance coverage.
