What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Purchasing Agent position at Bowen Engineering?
Summary
The Purchasing Agent will assist in the overall procurement process for the company.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret construction documents, contracts, plans, and specs.
- Research local and regional sources of materials, supplies, and services.
- Evaluate suppliers based on safety, price, quality, availability, reliability, capabilities, and reputation.
- Develop scopes of work for bids or contracts
- Evaluate proposals and quotations and develop comparative bid tabs
- Develop and execute construction subcontracts for services and purchase orders for supplies
- Negotiate commercial terms and pricing with sales representatives
- Learn current and emerging water, wastewater, and power industry technologies
- Maintain positive and ethical relations with Bowen subcontractors and suppliers
- Coordinate with Estimating and Operations throughout the buyout cycle
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Be a team player but able to work independently to meet intense deadlines, goals and objectives
- Have ability to analyze and filter critical data from construction documents and quotations
- Ability to learn, adapt, and improve processes and responsibilities
- Possess strong communication and organizational skills
- Maintain attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and project management/database software
Requirements Education & Experience:
- 2 years of industry experience as a Project Engineer/Manager or Technical sales
- AS or BS in business, engineering, construction management, or equivalent degree and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in construction or equivalent work/field/military experience.
Work Environment and Physical Expectations
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods while using a computer
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Regularly required to talk or hear in order to communicate with team members and vendors
- Some travel required
