Position Summary
The Assistant Retail Manager supports the Retail Manager in daily store operations, ensuring excellent customer service, strong merchandising execution, and operational efficiency. This role helps lead and coach the retail team, maintain store standards, and uphold all policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. The Assistant Retail Manager models Bow Street’s values and maintains a strong presence on the sales floor. When the Retail Manager is unavailable, this position assumes operational leadership to ensure continuity and consistency.
Primary Responsibilities:
Store Operations, Execution & Sales
- Support opening/closing procedures, cash handling, workflow management, and break coverage.
- Conduct daily store walks, delegate tasks, follow up on completion, and hold associates accountable.
- Execute merchandising standards, accurate signage, product rotation, and profitable layouts.
- Assist with POS systems, scan file, scheduling and communication tools, ordering, receiving, and inventory upkeep.
- Develop and oversee the attainment of financial objectives (sales, payroll, gross margin, shrink, and other expenses) for the store.
- Utilize reporting tools to support sales, margin improvement, productivity, and customer experience.
- Ensuring accurate maintenance of company records.
- Provide product knowledge and sales-building recommendations; act as buyer backup when needed.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, liquor-law regulations, and operational standards.
- Ordering of spirits, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks
- Monitor daily facility upkeep, performing basic maintenance and coordinating repairs when needed
- Support daily store operations by cashiering, assisting customers, and keeping shelves stocked and organized.
Team Leadership, Customer Experience & Staff Support
- Maintain a customer-first, enthusiastic atmosphere with proactive engagement.
- Assist in supervising, training, coaching, and motivating associates.
- Provide ongoing recognition, feedback, and development support.
- Help build strong relationships with customers, community partners, and vendors.
- Support scheduling, coverage for call-outs and vacations, and onboarding new hires.
- Assist in performance discussions and follow-up on improvement plans as directed.
- Maintain a consistent leadership presence on the sales floor.
Safety and Additional Duties
- Support a clean, safe, and welcoming store environment; enforce safety and compliance expectations.
- Assist in documenting and reporting incidents and supporting workers’ comp procedures.
- Maintain communication with Wholesale, Accounting, and Marketing to support smooth operations.
- Model Bow Street’s culture of accountability, ownership, and leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support store performance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Retail management or supervisory experience required; beverage industry experience preferred.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, delegate effectively, and follow up.
- Knowledge of store operations, merchandising, and inventory processes.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, scheduling systems, POS software, and related tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to negotiate win–win solutions.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs regularly and 50 lbs occasionally; frequent bending and reaching.
- Ability to stand/walk for the entire shift and work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
