AI Governance Consultant
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite)
Contract Duration: 6–12 months (possible extension)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced AI Governance Consultant to support the execution and enhancement of our AI governance framework. This role will lead the day-to-day coordination of AI risk assessments and governance workflows, ensuring that AI initiatives—both internal and third-party—are evaluated for compliance, ethical alignment, and responsible use.
The ideal candidate combines strong risk management and governance expertise with a practical understanding of AI technologies and their associated risks and has the communication and organizational skills to align diverse stakeholders across technology, data privacy, legal, and business functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead AI Governance Reviews: Manage end-to-end assessments for internal and third-party AI initiatives—from intake and triage through risk assessment and final approval.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Review submissions, identify potential risks, recommend targeted mitigations, and document findings.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Coordinate with Security, Data Privacy, Legal, Architecture, and Business teams to ensure comprehensive, timely evaluations.
- Reduce Backlog & Drive Closure: Follow up on incomplete or unclear submissions and maintain clear communication with stakeholders to move reviews toward approval.
- Optimize Governance Processes: Identify opportunities for automation, templates, or dashboards to improve efficiency and consistency in the AI governance process.
- Project Manage Workflow: Track schedules, milestones, and dependencies; maintain progress dashboards and prepare stakeholder updates.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare risk summaries, mitigation plans, and readouts for leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of AI technologies and a commitment to responsible AI use.
- 3–7 years of experience in risk management, technology governance, data governance, or compliance (AI governance experience preferred).
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and ethical considerations in AI deployment.
- Strong organizational, facilitation, and communication skills—capable of bridging business and technical discussions.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and preferably Copilot) for workflow tracking and reporting.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional workflows and deliver results within structured governance environments.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills
- Exposure to model or GenAI risk management (e.g., data handling, bias, evaluation, or monitoring).
- Experience creating dashboards or trackers in Excel, SharePoint, or Power BI.
- Prior experience in regulated or risk-sensitive industries such as insurance, financial services, or healthcare.
- Familiarity with NIST AI Risk Management Framework, EU AI Act, or similar governance standards.
Day-to-Day Activities
- Conduct intake huddles, triage submissions, and communicate action items.
- Review project submissions for completeness and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
- Draft and maintain AI risk assessment summaries, mitigation plans, and owner accountability.
- Maintain a clean pipeline with up-to-date SLAs, status tags, and progress visibility.
- Escalate blockers proactively with context and recommendations.
Work Model
- Hybrid: 2 days/week onsite in Chicago, IL.
- Candidates local or near to IL location are preferred.
- Exceptional remote candidates may be reviewed based on experience and business need.
