Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medication Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in administering medications and providing essential patient care within assisted living, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care settings. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with diverse patient populations, including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, and those requiring memory or hospice care. The Medication Technician will ensure safe medication administration while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and documentation standards.
Duties
- Administer prescribed medications accurately according to physician orders and facility protocols
- Monitor and record vital signs, patient responses, and medication effects using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner
- Assist with activities of daily living, including tube feeding, catheter care, and other personal care tasks
- Maintain detailed and compliant medical documentation in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Observe patients for adverse reactions or changes in condition and report findings to healthcare professionals
- Support patients with dementia, Alzheimer's, or other memory impairments through compassionate care and engagement
- Ensure medication storage safety and proper inventory management
- Follow infection control procedures and uphold safety standards at all times
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and medication administration protocols
- Experience working with people with disabilities or special needs is advantageous
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner is desirable
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical records management
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations including seniors and individuals requiring hospice or dementia care
- Certification as a Medication Technician or similar credential is required where applicable
- Excellent communication skills and a caring attitude towards patients of all ages and conditions
