Bountiful Gardens is a retail garden center. We sell plants, garden accessories, and landscape installations to our customers.
Job Description
*Overseeing the day-to-day running of the center, including opening and closing procedures, facility maintenance, and ensuring a safe, clean environment for staff and customers.
*Plant and Inventory Management:
Ordering, receiving, and managing inventory for plants (live goods) and gardening supplies (hard goods).
Ensuring proper care, watering, pruning, and fertilizing of all plant material.
Identifying and treating plant diseases, pests, and other issues.
Creating attractive, seasonal displays and maintaining proper signage.
Personnel Management:
Recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling staff.
Leading, motivating, and coaching the team to ensure high performance and customer service standards.
Handling employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance evaluations.
Sales and Customer Service:
Providing expert advice on plants, gardening techniques, and products.
Developing and implementing strategies to achieve sales goals and maximize profitability.
Operating Point of Sale (POS) systems and handling customer inquiries and complaints professionally.
Business and Finance: Managing the center's budget, monitoring expenses, analyzing sales data, and coordinating promotional events with management or ownership.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Successful garden center managers typically possess a combination of practical experience and soft skills:
Extensive Plant Knowledge: In-depth understanding of various indoor/outdoor plants, soil, fertilizers, and pest management is essential.
Retail Management Experience: A background in retail management, including inventory control, sales, and customer service, is often required (typically 3 years).
Leadership Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage a diverse team and fast-paced environment.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 40-50 pounds regularly.
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in horticultural sciences or a related field.
Weekend Availability: The role requires working a flexible schedule, including weekends, especially during peak seasons.
Knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees is preferred. Experience in any of the following- agriculture, horticulture, landscape design, maintenance, installation is preferred.
