Position Description: This is a 0.5 FTE position teaching K-8 Art, starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Hours and days worked are based on elementary scheduling priorities, generally Mon-Thurs, around 10:30AM - 3:30PM.
10:30 - 10:55am - Prep/Plan time
10:55 - 11:40am - 7/8 Grade (M-W, *Th Collaboration Time with Specials Teachers)
12:00 - 12:35 - Kindergarten (3 days a week with 1 day for planning)
12:45 - 1:30 - 3/4 Grade (M-Th)
1:40 - 2:25 - 1/2 Grade (M-Th)
2:45 - 3:30 - 5/6 Grade (M-Th)
3:30 - Dismissal
Specialists also get bonus planning time 2 days a week during conferences twice a year.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. - Plan, guide and deliver instruction, using state and Horizons K-8 standards:
- Design and deliver engaging art lessons in grades K-8 that align with our school mission and vision.
- Deliver engaging, culturally responsive instruction across the arts by grade level.
- Facilitate hands-on, project-based learning experiences which inspire creativity and foster artistic skills and expression while teaching art fundamentals, techniques, and tools. Areas of practice may include drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, fiber arts, ceramics and sculpture.
- Understand, appreciate, and be responsive to student diversity.
- Participate in other school-based activities and responsibilities as needed.
- Effectively manage the learning environment.
- Willingness to collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate art across disciplines when appropriate.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution, with valid and current state teaching license, and highly qualified content knowledge. License can be applied for or in process.
- Enthusiasm to help K-8 students learn and explore the subject of Art.
- Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of art teaching experience in a K-8 environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience integrating multicultural issues and diverse perspectives in instruction.
- Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to build relationships and personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn.
- Technologically literate, Google applications savvy and motivated to use technology to enhance learning.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and position on the Horizons K-8 Teacher Salary Schedule which can be found via the Horizons K-8 website. Up to five years of prior experience will be considered for salary placement. Salary will be prorated for FTE.
