Job Overview:

The Production Engineer is responsible for owning the transition of products from R&D into stable, repeatable in-house assembly processes. This role ensures that product designs are translated into efficient production workflows through BOM accuracy, work instructions, tooling/fixture development, process validation, and continuous improvement.

The Production Engineer will develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, support the launch and scaling of assembly lines, balance work content across stations, and provide day-to-day production support including work order/build issue debugging.

This position plays a critical role in scaling internal manufacturing as the company brings product assembly in-house.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Transition & Manufacturing Ownership

  • Own product handoff from R&D into manufacturing, including readiness for in-house assembly.
  • Translate engineering designs into repeatable production processes.
  • Own and maintain product structure in the ERP/PLM, including BOMs, and support routings and labor standards, including:
  • Bills of Material (BOMs)
  • Work Instructions (WIs) / Standard Work
  • Assembly documentation
  • Manage engineering change implementation (ECO).
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Quality to ensure assembly readiness of purchased parts (including overseas suppliers): packaging/labeling expectations, kitting strategy, revision control, and feedback on defects/nonconformances.

Process Development & Documentation

  • Develop detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for assembly operations.
  • Design efficient assembly processes and workstation layouts.
  • Establish standard work and cycle time expectations.
  • Develop production line documentation including: Assembly instructions, Test procedures, Tooling requirements, and Process flow diagrams

Tooling & Equipment

  • Identify, specify, and source required assembly tooling and fixtures.
  • Work with suppliers and internal resources to design, build, and iterate custom fixtures, gauges, and manufacturing aids (including error-proofing/poka-yoke where appropriate).
  • Document tooling usage, settings, and maintenance requirements to support consistent operation across shifts: Assembly fixtures, Testing stations, and Process automation where appropriate.

Manufacturing Support

  • Provide technical support to production during product launches.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective improvements.
  • Support line balancing and staffing models by measuring cycle times, identifying bottlenecks, and rebalancing work content to takt.
  • Debug work orders and build issues by isolating root cause (BOM/routing discrepancies, missing parts, tooling issues, documentation gaps) and driving permanent fixes.
  • Work closely with operations to improve throughput and reduce defects.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in: Cycle time, Ergonomics, Process stability, and Production efficiency
  • Apply Lean manufacturing principles to improve workflows.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with:

  • Quality Engineering
  • Supply Chain
  • R&D Engineering
  • Operations leadership

Deliverables / Success Metrics

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Complete, released, and controlled production documentation for all products (BOMs, WIs/SOPs, test procedures) and accurate support for routings/labor standards
  • Stable production processes demonstrated by consistent throughput, minimal downtime attributable to process, and controlled change management
  • Assembly line performance aligned to takt through effective line balancing and standard work
  • Improved quality results (e.g., higher first-pass yield, reduced rework/scrap) through robust processes, documentation, and corrective actions
  • Successful new product/process launches
  • Timely, accurate ECO implementation with no unapproved deviations; BOM/routing integrity maintained across revisions
  • Clear and maintainable SOPs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
  • 3–7 years of manufacturing engineering or production engineering experience
  • Experience developing manufacturing documentation and work instructions
  • Experience maintaining BOMs and implementing engineering changes in an ERP/MRP environment; able to support routings and labor standards
  • Experience launching or supporting assembly production
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Comfortable working hands-on on the production floor to support builds, troubleshoot issues, and train to standard work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing / Toyota Production System
  • Experience designing assembly fixtures and tooling
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Fishbowl, Odoo, NetSuite, SAP, etc.)
  • Experience in electromechanical product assembly
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks or similar)

Key Skills:

  • Process documentation
  • Manufacturing process development
  • Tooling and fixture design
  • Root cause problem solving
  • Cross-functional communication
  • Continuous improvement

Benefits:
