Job Summary:
Botetourt County is accepting applications to fill multiple seasonal Site Supervisor positions in the Parks and Recreation Department. Applicants will provide general support for Recreation Programs including planning, leading, set-up/take down of materials and assisting with the overall supervision of recreational programs and activities
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Provides general support for Recreation Programs including planning, leading, setup/take down of materials and assisting with the overall supervision of recreational programs and activities.
Examples of work (Illustrative Only):
- Arrives 30–60 minutes before activity and stays up to one hour after activity for setup, cleanup, and closing duties.
- Assists with the operation and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Provides support during recreational programs, including helping with crowd control, assisting with injuries, and documenting accidents or incidents.
- Serves as the decision-maker, including handling disputes, enforcing rules, and supporting coaches and officials.
- Reports building or field issues to the Area Site Supervisor.
- Assists coaches, officials, and participants with program needs.
- Interacts and communicates effectively with participants, parents, and the public.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of activities and facilities offered by the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Ability to follow directions and maintain positive working relationships.
- At least one year of experience in recreation, customer service, or related work preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Flexible availability (weeknights 5:30–9:30 PM, Saturdays 8:00 AM–6:00 PM).
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Subject to background check; CPR certification recommended.
Physical Demands/Special Work Environment:
- This position frequently requires walking across uneven terrain, sports fields, indoor arenas, and walkways that may be wet, snowy, or icy.
- The person in this position frequently communicates and exchanges information with colleagues and subordinates who need detailed instructions on work assignments. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Constantly works in outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric exposure.
- The role also requires frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, standing, and walking to perform operational tasks effectively.
- Vocal communication is essential for expressing and exchanging ideas, while hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Visual acuity is necessary for determining the accuracy or thoroughness of work, observing general surroundings, and monitoring activities.
