Job Description
Job Summary
The College of Science is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Student Event Specialist to assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of College events throughout the academic year. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working both independently and in a team setting. This role offers hands-on experience in event management, campus engagement, and professional communication. Approx. 5-10 hrs per week during the semester.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the coordination and setup of College of Science events, including but not limited to receptions, lectures, student welcome activities, and alumni gatherings. Manage event logistics such as room reservations, equipment requests, catering orders, and guest check-in. Provide on-site event support, including setup, decoration, registration management, and troubleshooting. Serve as a welcoming representative of the College, engaging with students, faculty, alumni, and guests. Help with event marketing, including flyer creation, social media promotion, and campus outreach. Maintain an organized event inventory. Support post-event wrap-up, including cleanup, thank-you communications, and feedback collection. Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the College’s events and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
Must be a current Purdue University student in good academic standing. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with event setup/takedown. Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred Skills
Experience in event planning or customer service. Familiarity with Canva or other basic design tools for event promotion. Knowledge of Purdue University’s campus and facilities.
