Job Summary

Purdue University is seeking a Prevention Programming Specialist to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based violence prevention strategies and programs that enhance campus safety and well-being. In this collaborative role, you will work closely with the Director and prevention team to set program objectives aligned with departmental goals, contribute to both short- and long-term education and outreach initiatives, and help oversee university-wide prevention efforts. A key responsibility includes co-leading the Educational Ambassador Program, which engages the campus community in proactive violence prevention education.

You will also provide confidential support, advocacy, and resources to students affected by interpersonal violence, including stalking, relationship violence, sexual exploitation, and sexual violence. This involves delivering crisis response and individual and community-level intervention services while guiding students through the criminal justice and campus judicial processes. Your work will directly contribute to fostering a safer, more informed university environment.

What We Are Looking For

Required

Experience and Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field (e.g., social work, health education, public health, psychology, criminal justice) is necessary.
  • Experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence

Preferred

  • Two (2) years of prior experience developing and implementing violence prevention and education programs targeting young adults, as well as engaging men as bystanders and allies
  • Experience working in a college or university setting.
  • Having a Master’s or advanced degree.
  • Experience applying issues of social justice to a prevention practice.

Skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative constituencies.
  • Effective rapport building and strong interpersonal skills including excellent written, oral and presentation skills, including one-on-one sessions, small and large group presentations, workshops, and trainings.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving confidential and sensitive situations, and consult when appropriate.
  • Must be student-service focused, with good listening skills.
  • Evidence of strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks in a busy environment.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative, problem solve, collaborate and work as a team player.
  • Ability to grasp knowledge of policies and procedures related to different aspects of student services. Sensitivity to cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the ability to work well with a diverse student body.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends.
  • Ability to serve on-call after hours and have access to transportation in order to respond to campus crises in a timely manner.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of current literature and best practices regarding sexual assault and interpersonal violence, including federal regulations (Title IX, and Campus Security Act).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, fully insured, and a reliable vehicle to transport students to appointments as needed.
